Firmware Engineer

Senior Embedded Firmware Engineer | Device Platform Migration | Bay Area, CA (Onsite) 📍 Bay Area, California (onsite) 💰 $170k–$210k base + equity + full benefits I’m working with a technology business bringing firmware development and ownership for its customer-deployed devices in-house, transitioning away from a third-party vendor.

They’re looking for a Senior Embedded Firmware Engineer with 5+ years of experience to play a key role in the migration, helping establish the internal firmware platform, build processes and long-term ownership of production devices. You’ll work closely with the existing vendor during the handover and partner with another firmware engineer as the internal team grows.

What you’ll do 🔹 Support the migration of device firmware from a third-party vendor to internal ownership 🔹 Work with the vendor to understand the existing codebase, architecture and update mechanisms 🔹 Develop and maintain internal firmware build and signing pipelines 🔹 Collaborate with Engineering Services on unified OTA updates across the device fleet 🔹 Help establish firmware release processes, version control and rollback procedures 🔹 Contribute to the reliability, security and maintainability of production firmware What you’ll bring ✅ 5+ years of embedded firmware engineering experience ✅ Strong C/C++ programming skills and experience with embedded Linux ✅ Experience with OTA updates, secure boot and firmware signing ✅ Experience developing, maintaining or supporting production device firmware ✅ Ability to work with existing codebases and collaborate effectively with external vendors and internal teams Nice to have ⭐ IoT, robotics or security device experience ⭐ Experience managing firmware across a deployed device fleet ⭐ Exposure to firmware migrations, vendor handovers or bringing development in-house ⭐ Experience establishing firmware standards and release processes The package 💰 $170k–$210k base salary , depending on experience and fit 📈 Equity / stock options 🏥 Medical, dental, vision, 401(k) and paid time off This is a full-time, onsite role in the Bay Area , ideal for a hands-on senior engineer who wants to take ownership of embedded firmware and help shape how a growing technology business manages its device platform.
