About the Opportunity

A leading technology services organization is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to support a long-term, enterprise-level client environment in Suffolk County, NY. This is a permanent, full-time position offering the opportunity to take ownership of a complex infrastructure environment while serving as the primary technical resource on-site.

This role is ideal for an experienced infrastructure professional who enjoys working autonomously, solving complex technical challenges, and mentoring junior technical staff when needed.

What You'll Be Doing

• Act as the primary on-site technical resource supporting a large, enterprise-scale environment
• Administer and maintain VMware virtual infrastructure, Windows Server environments, and Microsoft 365 services
• Lead server, storage, networking, and infrastructure projects
• Manage backups, disaster recovery, and business continuity processes
• Support firewalls, VPNs, switches, wireless infrastructure, and security technologies
• Perform server migrations, upgrades, and infrastructure improvements
• Serve as an escalation point for technical issues and mentor junior engineers
• Maintain accurate documentation and provide proactive recommendations for environment improvements

Required Experience

• 5+ years of hands-on systems engineering or infrastructure support experience
• Strong VMware vSphere administration experience (critical requirement)
• Windows Server administration and Active Directory expertise
• Experience supporting Microsoft 365 and Exchange environments
• Strong networking knowledge including VPNs, routing, switching, and firewall technologies
• Experience with backup and disaster recovery solutions
• Strong troubleshooting skills across servers, networks, and applications
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to work independently

Preferred Experience

• Industry certifications such as VMware, Microsoft, Cisco, or CompTIA
• Azure and/or AWS experience
• Fortinet firewall experience
• Experience leading infrastructure projects and mentoring junior team members
