About FlightBI
FlightBI is a technology and analytics company specializing in aviation, travel, and transportation intelligence. Our clients include airports, airlines, consultants, and other aviation industry stakeholders.
Our Fligence platform combines large-scale aviation data, analytical models, cloud data infrastructure, and SaaS applications to support air service development, market analysis, passenger forecasting, catchment and leakage analysis, and strategic decision-making.
Position Overview
We are seeking a Data & Software Engineer who can work across the full data-to-product lifecycle. The role combines data engineering, applied data science, and software development. Core responsibilities include processing complex datasets, building reliable data pipelines, developing and validating analytical and demand-estimation models, and turning raw information into production-ready data and insights.
The engineer will also contribute to our SaaS products, including applications built with Java/Spring Boot and Angular.
Candidates may have stronger experience in data engineering, software engineering, or applied data science. We do not expect equal experience in every area, but we are looking for someone with strong quantitative and programming fundamentals who is interested in developing across the full lifecycle.
What You Will Do
· Build, maintain, and optimize data-processing and ETL workflows using Python, SQL and Apache Airflow.
· Process large-scale airline, airport, passenger, schedule, geographic, social-economic and travel datasets.
· Develop and improve statistical, demand-estimation, forecasting, and allocation models using large-scale aviation and travel data.
· Use available booking, ticketing, flight schedule, traffic, demographic, and other data sources to estimate total market demand and forecast future demand.
· Evaluate model assumptions and outputs, validate estimates against independent data sources and control totals, and investigate unexpected results.
· Investigate data anomalies, reconcile results to source data, and build data-quality and validation processes.
· Improve automation, scalability, reliability, and processing efficiency.
· Translate processed data and analytical results into features for FlightBI's SaaS products.
· Develop and maintain backend services and REST APIs using Java and Spring Boot.
· Contribute to user-facing web applications built with Angular and TypeScript.
· Use modern AI development tools effectively while independently reviewing, testing, debugging, and validating the resulting code and outputs.
· Take increasing ownership of projects from raw data through production deployment.
What We Are Looking For
· Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Operations Research, Economics, or another quantitative/technical field, or equivalent relevant experience.
· Strong Python and SQL skills.
· Strong programming fundamentals and experience building software or data applications.
· Strong analytical and quantitative problem-solving ability.
· Ability to work with messy or incomplete data and determine whether results are reasonable.
· Ability to investigate unfamiliar problems, learn quickly, and work independently.
· Attention to data quality, testing, maintainability, and production reliability.
· Clear written and verbal communication skills.
· Legally authorized to work in the United States.
Preferred, But Not Required
Experience with Java, Spring Boot, Angular, TypeScript/JavaScript, Snowflake, AWS, Apache Airflow, PostgreSQL, REST APIs, Git, cloud platforms, statistical modeling, forecasting, regression, machine learning, demand estimation, discrete-choice models, optimization, or other quantitative methods is helpful. Experience working with large-scale transactional, transportation, travel, or geospatial datasets is also valuable.
We do not expect candidates to already be experts in every technology listed.
How We Think About the Role
The role is primarily data and data-engineering focused, with meaningful software-product responsibilities. A typical project may begin with a raw external dataset, require Python/SQL processing and validation, continue through database design and a Spring Boot API, and ultimately appear as a feature in an Angular application. We are looking for someone who wants to understand and eventually own that entire process.
How We Evaluate Success
Success in this role means being able to understand a problem, identify issues in the data, design a sensible solution, use available tools including AI productively, validate that the result is correct, write maintainable code, and communicate your reasoning. Correctness and judgment matter more than simply producing code quickly.
Why Join FlightBI?
· Own meaningful production work and see the impact of your work directly.
· Work with large, complex, real-world aviation datasets.
· Build across the data-to-product lifecycle instead of being limited to one narrow technical function.
· Gain hands-on experience with Python, SQL, Snowflake, AWS, Java/Spring Boot, Angular, and production SaaS systems.
· See your work incorporated into products used by aviation industry clients.
· Work directly with FlightBI’s founder, who brings 25 years of experience in aviation, data science, and software technology.
· Develop broad technical, analytical, and business experience in an entrepreneurial environment.
