Urgent Care Physician Assistant

Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough physical examinations and patient assessments to determine urgent medical needs.
• Manage acute pain, perform triage, and develop treatment plans aligned with best practices and clinical guidelines.
• Prescribe medications, administer injections including botulinum toxin treatments, and perform suturing as needed.
• Interpret diagnostic tests such as laboratory results, radiology reports, and vital signs to inform clinical decisions.
• Collaborate with healthcare professionals across specialties including emergency medicine, critical care, pediatrics, geriatrics, and hospital medicine to ensure comprehensive patient care.
• Document all patient encounters accurately within Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems like Epic or eClinicalWorks while adhering to HIPAA regulations.
• Participate in clinical research or clinical trials when applicable, contributing to data collection and quality improvement initiatives.
• Perform procedures such as airway management, ventilator management, catheterizations, and other advanced interventions typical of urgent care settings.
• Provide patient education on health coaching topics, medication management, discharge planning, and follow-up care instructions.
• Maintain proficiency in CPT coding and ICD coding (ICD-9/10) for billing accuracy and compliance.

Skills

• Extensive experience with EMR/EHR systems including Epic, Cerner, or similar platforms; proficiency in electronic health records management is essential.
• Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and diagnostic evaluation techniques.
• Demonstrated ability in critical care procedures such as airway management, ventilator use, dialysis support, and ICU-level interventions.
• Skilled in performing aseptic techniques during injections and invasive procedures; adept at suturing and dermal filler administration when applicable.
• Familiarity with hospital environments including Level I & II trauma centers or teaching hospitals; inpatient experience is highly valued.
• Experience with telehealth platforms to provide remote urgent care services effectively.
• Capable of managing complex cases involving infectious diseases, acute trauma, or post-operative care within emergency room or urgent care settings.
• Knowledge of healthcare regulations including HIPAA compliance, DEA regulations for medication prescribing, and medical coding standards (ICD-10/ICD-9).
• Excellent client communication skills with the ability to explain complex medical information clearly and compassionately.
• Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams while demonstrating leadership in patient management strategies.
