Cephasonics Ultrasound is seeking an experienced Part-Time Senior Accountant to manage the day-to-day accounting activities for our growing technology and manufacturing company.
This is a hands-on position for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys working independently and taking ownership of the accounting function in a small-company environment. The position will work closely with company management, operations and our outside CPA firm.
The ideal candidate has strong QuickBooks experience and a solid understanding of accounting for a company that purchases inventory, manufactures products, manages customer orders and ships finished systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate and timely accounting records in QuickBooks
- Manage the general ledger and perform monthly account reconciliations
- Prepare monthly financial statements, including income statement, balance sheet and supporting schedules
- Manage accounts payable, including vendor invoices, payment processing and account reconciliation
- Manage accounts receivable, including customer invoicing, payment application, collections and aging reports
- Process and maintain customer sales orders, including deposits, invoicing and shipment-related billing
- Coordinate accounting activities associated with customer orders and product shipments
- Maintain accurate accounting for inventory, including inventory purchases, adjustments and reconciliations
- Work with production and operations to maintain appropriate accounting for work in process (WIP), finished goods and cost of goods sold
- Assist in establishing and maintaining accurate manufacturing/product costs
- Review material, component and other manufacturing costs and investigate significant variances
- Process payroll through QuickBooks and maintain related payroll accounting records
- Perform bank and credit-card reconciliations
- Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, prepaid expenses and other month-end adjustments
- Maintain fixed-asset records and depreciation schedules
- Monitor customer receivables and vendor obligations and provide management with appropriate aging and cash information
- Maintain organized accounting records and supporting documentation
- Support annual tax preparation and other accounting requirements in coordination with the company’s outside CPA
- Assist management with budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis as needed
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting controls, processes and reporting as the company grows
Qualifications
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience; 7+ years preferred
- Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks
- Demonstrated experience preparing monthly financial statements and performing month-end close
- Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting, accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Experience with inventory accounting and cost of goods sold
- Experience working in a manufacturing, electronics, medical-device or other product-based business strongly preferred
- Understanding of manufacturing concepts such as BOMs, inventory, work in process, finished goods and product costing is highly desirable
- Experience with QuickBooks payroll or similar payroll systems
- Strong Excel skills
- Ability to work independently, prioritize responsibilities and meet monthly deadlines
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining accurate financial records
A CPA is not required. We value practical accounting experience and the ability to independently manage the accounting activities of a small manufacturing company.
What We’re Looking For
- This position is particularly well suited for an experienced accountant who wants a stable, long-term part-time positionrather than a traditional full-time corporate accounting role.
- We are looking for someone who is comfortable being hands-on.
- In a small company, the same person who prepares monthly financial statements may also enter a vendor invoice, reconcile inventory, review a customer account or work with production to understand the cost of a system being built.
- The successful candidate will be organized, dependable and comfortable taking responsibility for keeping the company’s accounting records accurate and current.
