Job description
About this role
Job Overview
Emblu seeks a hands-on manager with controller-level accounting expertise to manage client engagements, perform accounting and financial work, and oversee staff execution and quality assurance. This role ensures all deliverables are accurate, complete, properly supported, and delivered on time, with proactive ownership that allows leadership to step away from routine follow-up.
Responsibilities
- Manage client work plans, priorities, staff assignments, and deadlines. Track deliverables through completion, resolve issues, and communicate risks before deadlines are missed.
- Perform and oversee accounting operations, including general ledger, AP/AR, payroll review, month-end close, and financial reporting.
- Review staff work for accuracy, completeness, compliance, and supporting documentation before delivery or posting.
- Ensure adherence to client and Emblu policies, SOPs, and documentation standards. Save all work products and supporting records in the designated Microsoft Teams structure, with clear explanations of the data, methodology, calculations, and conclusions so an unfamiliar reviewer can recreate the work.
- Develop and maintain SOPs, checklists, and templates; train staff to follow them consistently and keep documentation current as processes change.
- Prepare or review indirect rate models, incurred cost submissions, and financial support for contracts administration and proposal pricing.
- Configure and maintain accounting systems and internal controls that support accurate reporting, GovCon compliance, and audit readiness.
- Coordinate with clients, auditors, and tax preparers, and implement opportunities for automation and process improvement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA preferred.
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years in government contracting.
- Experience supervising staff and managing multiple client engagements or projects while completing assigned technical work.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, FAR, DCAA requirements, indirect rates, incurred cost submissions, and FFP, cost-reimbursement, and T&M contracts.
- Proficiency in Unanet or Deltek Costpoint, advanced Excel, and Microsoft Teams.
- Demonstrated ability to establish clear expectations, review work critically, hold staff accountable, and resolve issues independently.
- Strong communication, organization, and documentation skills; experience with system implementations, automation, or proposal pricing is a plus.
Pay: $115,000.00 - $135,000.00 per year
Benefits:
