Construction Bookkeeper / Accountant

Duke Building Co. is a custom home builder based in Logan, Utah. We are looking for a detail-oriented and experienced Bookkeeper / Accountant to manage our day-to-day accounting operations, maintain accurate financial records, and track financial performance across multiple residential construction projects.

The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, comfortable working independently, and experienced in accounting, preferably within construction or another project-based industry.

Key Responsibilities

Construction & Project Accounting

• Prepare and submit construction loan draw requests to lenders, including supporting documentation.
• Track project-specific expenses, budgets, and financial activity.
• Maintain accurate job costing and assign expenses to the appropriate projects.
• Monitor construction budgets and identify discrepancies.
• Reconcile financial information between QuickBooks Online and Buildertrend.

Bookkeeping & Accounting

• Manage accounts payable (AP), including reviewing invoices, coding expenses, and coordinating vendor and subcontractor payments.
• Manage accounts receivable (AR), including invoicing, tracking payments, and following up on outstanding balances.
• Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and loan accounts.
• Maintain accurate and organized financial records in QuickBooks Online.
• Review financial transactions for accuracy and completeness.
• Assist with year-end accounting and coordinate with the company's CPA.

Financial Reporting

• Prepare monthly financial statements and management reports.
• Track project profitability, budgets, and costs.
• Monitor cash flow, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
• Develop and maintain Excel spreadsheets for financial tracking and reporting.
• Provide timely and accurate financial information to support management decisions.

Qualifications

• Previous professional accounting or bookkeeping experience required.
• Experience with construction accounting, job costing, or project-based accounting strongly preferred.
• Proficiency with QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Excel required.
• Experience with Buildertrend preferred but not required.
• Understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and financial reporting.
• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize responsibilities, and meet deadlines.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
• Experience working for a general contractor, home builder, or construction company.
• Familiarity with construction loan draws, job costing, and project financial reporting.

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary: $50,000–$65,000 annually, depending on experience.
• Schedule: Full-time, Monday–Friday.
• Location: Logan, Utah (in-office).
• Opportunity to take ownership of accounting operations within an established residential construction company.
