Application Question(s):

  • A customer is looking to expand their “8-5” business to a 24/7, 3-shift operation. To meet these new operational demands, the CTO has requested options from DTS to help improve resiliency and uptime of the IT infrastructure, so the risk of disruptions and outages are reduced. “We can’t have our IT infrastructure go down after-hours when we would be waiting for your on-call staff to react” says the CTO.

The customer has a traditional on-premises infrastructure consisting of servers, a NAS, switches and wireless access points, and a firewall. They have a single UPS protecting this equipment, and they have a single internet connection from the local cable provider.

What are some improvements or changes you could make to the IT infrastructure or environment that would help the CTO reduce downtime risk?

  • A customer has recently replaced approximately 10 older Wi-Fi 4/802.11.n wireless access points throughout their single office with new Wi-Fi 6/802.11ax ones. After the new WAPs came online, DTS noticed that some of the access points would randomly go offline, then come back online after random periods of time. DTS also received reports of general wireless connectivity issues from users.

What are some potential causes of these issues, and what would you look at to gather information and start troubleshooting?

  • A customer’s line of business (LOB) application runs on-premises in a client-server model. This morning, users have reported that their workstation client for this LOB application is not working. The error the users are receiving when trying to logon is “server cannot be resolved.” From workstations, you can ping around the network to various IP addresses, including the network’s default gateway and public internet resolvers, but general network connectivity appears to be non-functional, and internet access isn’t working, either.

What do you think the issue could be and describe your troubleshooting or thought process on how you got to your conclusion?
