About Matee & the Opportunity

Matee develops interactive, social, and engaging text experiences. We are seeking a hands-on Senior Software Engineer – Team Lead to build product features, guide day-to-day technical decisions, mentor engineers, and drive reliable delivery. This is a player-coach role focused on writing code, removing blockers, and improving engineering quality—not owning enterprise-wide architecture.

What You’ll Do

• Build, test, deploy, and maintain responsive web applications and live formatted typing experiences that support social interaction and collaboration.
• Develop reusable TypeScript/JavaScript components, integrate REST APIs and real-time features, and work with browser APIs, DOM behavior, and asynchronous interactions.
• Diagnose complex defects, investigate implementation-level root causes, and resolve performance, reliability, and cross-browser issues.
• Lead day-to-day technical execution: break down work, clarify implementation approaches, remove blockers, and coordinate delivery with Product Management, QA, and DevOps.
• Mentor engineers through pairing, technical discussions, actionable feedback, and practical engineering guidance.
• Champion manual user-focused testing alongside automated tests, automated code reviews, CI/CD, and maintainable development practices.
• Use AI-assisted development tools (including Claude or comparable tools) thoughtfully for coding, debugging, tests, and documentation while validating outputs.
• Communicate estimates, technical trade-offs, dependencies, and risks; improve team practices without introducing unnecessary complexity.

Required Qualifications

• 6+ years of professional software development experience building and maintaining production web applications; bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience.
• 2+ years of technical leadership or demonstrated experience guiding and mentoring other engineers while remaining hands-on.
• Strong TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, browser APIs, DOM manipulation, and asynchronous front-end development skills.
• Experience with reusable components, REST APIs, client-server applications, debugging, and application performance.
• Working knowledge of Git, automated testing, CI/CD, Agile delivery, and manual user-centered testing of product behavior.
• Ability to investigate root causes, make sound implementation decisions, collaborate across functions, and communicate clearly.
• Practical familiarity with responsible AI-assisted software development workflows.

Preferred Qualifications

• Rich-text editing, collaborative editors, contenteditable, Selection/Range APIs, MutationObserver, or keyboard/input event handling.
• Angular or similar front-end frameworks; WebSockets or real-time collaborative features.
• Node.js, Java/Spring, relational databases, shared TypeScript libraries, or AWS/cloud environments.
• Experience in SaaS product teams, cross-browser troubleshooting, and coordinated releases.

In the first 90 days, you understand Matee’s codebase and workflows, contribute production code, build strong team relationships, and help remove delivery blockers. Over the first year, you become a trusted hands-on technical lead who delivers important features, strengthens testing and engineering practices, and helps teammates grow.
