An established and innovative semiconductor business is looking to appoint an Applications Engineer to join its technical team in Irvine, California.
You will work across the complete product lifecycle, partnering with internal engineering, product, test and commercial teams as well as key customers. The role offers the opportunity to combine laboratory-based engineering with PCB design, silicon evaluation, technical problem solving and direct customer engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Support new product development from early technical definition through evaluation, validation and customer release.
- Develop and support evaluation hardware, including schematic capture, PCB layout reviews and manufacturing preparation.
- Work with external PCB design partners and oversee the development of evaluation boards through fabrication and production.
- Assess PCB designs with particular attention to power delivery, grounding, thermal performance, EMI, current handling and manufacturability.
- Review customer schematics and PCB layouts, providing practical recommendations to help achieve successful first-pass implementations.
- Conduct laboratory evaluation and characterization of power management ICs using oscilloscopes, electronic loads, power supplies, network analysers and other specialist equipment.
- Investigate electrical issues, troubleshoot performance problems and analyse test data to support product validation and customer design activity.
- Collaborate with test engineering teams on test hardware, software, characterization methodologies and correlation activities.
- Participate in customer design reviews, technical discussions, debugging sessions and remote support activities.
- Produce clear and technically accurate documentation, including application notes, evaluation board guides, validation reports, user documentation and technical presentations.
- Work closely with design, test, product marketing and operations teams to support successful product launches and customer adoption.
- Provide technical input into go-to-market activities and the development of customer-facing technical materials.
About You
You will be an experienced Power Electrical/Electronics engineer with a strong understanding of power electronics and practical experience working with switching power supplies and DC-DC conversion.
Ideally, you will bring:
- Relevant industry experience in power electronics, switching regulators or DC-DC converter applications.
- Strong practical knowledge of buck converters and switching power supply architectures.
- Significant hands-on laboratory experience testing and characterizing semiconductor devices and power electronics.
- Experience using equipment such as oscilloscopes, electronic loads, power supplies and network analysers.
- A good understanding of PCB design principles.
- Experience reviewing PCB layouts, schematics.
- Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear technical reports and customer documentation.
