**What position are we hiring for (and what will they do)? **

We are looking for a **Software Engineer IV, Supervisor** to join our team**. ** Reporting to the Senior Manager of Engineering, you will serve as a first\-level supervisor and hands\-on player\-coach, combining software development and technical leadership with direct responsibility for supervising and developing engineers.

You will remain actively involved in designing solutions, writing code, reviewing work, and resolving technical challenges while helping your direct reports grow and succeed.

As a **Software Engineer IV, Supervisor**, you should have deep technical expertise and be able to independently lead large, complex projects across multiple components, services, or teams. You should understand how technical decisions impact reliability, scalability, security, cost, and the customer experience.

You should also bring prior experience managing junior or mid\-level engineers, including coaching, training, mentoring, and providing actionable performance feedback. You will set clear expectations, support day\-to\-day execution, and build accountability while balancing your own technical contributions with your supervisory responsibilities.

**As a successful Software Engineer IV, Supervisor you will:**

  • Directly supervise engineers, setting clear expectations for responsibilities, delivery, technical quality, and collaboration
  • Hold regular one\-on\-one meetings, provide timely feedback, and help direct reports establish and progress toward development goals
  • Coach, train, and mentor junior and mid\-level engineers through hands\-on guidance, pairing, design discussions, and code reviews
  • Support onboarding and ongoing training so engineers build the knowledge, skills, and confidence to work independently
  • Assess performance, recognize accomplishments, and address performance concerns in partnership with the Senior Manager of Engineers
  • Coordinate work assignments and priorities with engineering and product leadership, balancing workload, delivery needs, and opportunities for growth
  • Remain a hands\-on contributor, writing high\-quality, maintainable, and testable code while setting a strong technical example
  • Lead the design and implementation of complex projects spanning multiple services, systems, or teams
  • Make sound technical and architectural decisions while balancing reliability, performance, security, scalability, maintainability, and cost
  • Own projects from planning through implementation, launch, and follow\-up, including milestones, dependencies, risks, testing, rollout, migration, observability, and operational readiness
  • Diagnose complex technical and production issues and drive them through resolution
  • Lead design reviews, code reviews, and technical discussions while encouraging engineers to build their own problem\-solving and decision\-making skills
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Product, and other stakeholders to maintain alignment, remove blockers, and drive projects forward
  • Communicate technical decisions, tradeoffs, risks, project status, and team needs clearly to technical and non\-technical audiences
  • Influence technical and product decisions beyond your immediate team through strong technical judgment and business understanding
  • Improve engineering practices, technical quality, documentation, and knowledge sharing while identifying opportunities to simplify and improve customer outcomes

**What skills will help you be effective on our team? **

  • 6\+ years of software development experience designing, building, testing, and maintaining production software, or equivalent experience demonstrating the technical expertise expected at this level
  • Prior experience directly managing junior or mid\-level engineers, including responsibility for coaching, training, mentoring, and performance feedback
  • Demonstrated ability to succeed in a hands\-on player\-coach role, balancing meaningful technical contributions with the day\-to\-day responsibilities of supervising engineers
  • Ability to set clear expectations, delegate effectively, hold people accountable, and support their professional growth
  • Ability to give constructive feedback, navigate difficult conversations, and recognize when to involve senior leadership
  • BS in Computer Science, Math, or another analytical discipline is preferred, but not required
  • Deep experience with Python, Ruby on Rails, JavaScript, or another relevant language
  • Strong technical and architectural problem\-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate tradeoffs and make sound decisions
  • Experience independently leading complex or ambiguous technical projects from planning through launch and follow\-up
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems, APIs, integrations, databases, infrastructure, and large\-scale web applications
  • Strong understanding of software quality, reliability, security, scalability, observability, and maintainability
  • Ability to manage technical risks, dependencies, and changing priorities while keeping stakeholders and direct reports aligned
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts and influence decisions across teams
  • Ability to influence architecture, engineering practices, and technical direction beyond your immediate team
  • Strong understanding of how technical decisions connect to product, customer, and business goals
  • Curiosity and a commitment to continuous improvement, exploring new technologies, and finding simpler, more effective solutions
  • Large\-scale web application experience and a GitHub, Bitbucket, or GitLab portfolio are a plus
  • Always hacking and exploring new technologies

  • The expected salary range for this role may differ based upon the candidate. Salary presented with a job offer will be based on factors such as calibrated job level, educational background, prior work experience, qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role
