**What position are we hiring for (and what will they do)? **

We are looking for a **Software Engineer III** to work alongside a talented team of engineers and product managers in the design, development, testing, and deployment of CTM’s technical solutions.

As a Software Engineer III, you should continue to develop your technical skills and expertise while taking greater ownership of projects that span multiple components, services, or teams. You should bring a passion for building high\-quality software, solving complex problems, and finding simple solutions to challenging technical and product needs.

You should also be able to adapt to changing priorities, technologies, and challenges while helping others navigate them as well.

In this role, you will be expected to own projects from planning through launch, identify and communicate risks and dependencies, collaborate with teammates and stakeholders, contribute to technical decisions, and help raise the quality of both our code and development practices.

**As a successful Software Engineer III, you will:**

  • Lead the design and implementation of moderately complex projects spanning multiple components or services
  • Write clear, maintainable, and testable code while considering reliability, security, performance, and scalability
  • Develop testing approaches that account for integration points, failure scenarios, and safe releases
  • Use systematic debugging to diagnose cross\-service issues and drive them through resolution
  • Own projects from planning through implementation, launch, and follow\-up
  • Break complex work into clear milestones, identify dependencies, and manage risks and blockers
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Product, and other stakeholders to maintain alignment and drive work forward
  • Communicate technical decisions, tradeoffs, project status, and risks clearly to technical and non\-technical audiences
  • Contribute to design reviews, code reviews, technical discussions, and project planning
  • Mentor less\-experienced engineers through pairing, code reviews, planning, and feedback
  • Contribute to documentation, knowledge sharing, and improvements to engineering practices and processes
  • Take accountability for project outcomes while balancing delivery, reliability, security, maintainability, and customer impact

**What skills will help you be effective on our team? **

  • 5\+ years of software development experience, with a track record of building, testing, and maintaining software in a professional environment, or equivalent experience demonstrating the technical expertise expected at this level
  • BS in Computer Science, Math, or another analytical discipline is preferred, but not required
  • Strong software development skills in Python, Ruby on Rails, JavaScript, or another relevant language, with experience working across a broader technology stack
  • Strong technical problem\-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues and evaluate technical tradeoffs
  • Project ownership and planning skills, with the ability to break ambiguous work into manageable milestones and drive projects through completion
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across Engineering, Product, and other teams
  • Ability to identify and manage risks, dependencies, and changing priorities while keeping stakeholders informed
  • Strong understanding of software quality, including testing, maintainability, reliability, security, and observability
  • Ability to mentor and support other engineers, while continuing to seek feedback and develop your own skills
  • Passion for continuous improvement, with an interest in new technologies and finding ways to improve our products, processes, and technical solutions
  • Prior large\-scale web application experience and a GitHub, Bitbucket, or GitLab portfolio are a plus
  • Always hacking and exploring new technologies

  • The expected salary range for this role may differ based upon the candidate. Salary presented with a job offer will be based on factors such as calibrated job level, educational background, prior work experience, qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role.
