Our global entertainment client is seeking a Book Graphic Designer to work with their team. This is a 2-year contract opportunity requiring onsite work Monday-Thursday (remote on Friday) in New York City.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Book Graphic Designer will assist in creating original book designs and support the art department on a variety of publishing projects, including picture books for young children, graphic novels, middle-grade titles, and young adult novels.

The ideal candidate is passionate about children's books, possesses strong design and communication skills, and can successfully manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

-Work closely with the Creative Director, Design Manager, and design team to support book design and production tasks.

-Create interior page designs and prepare cover mechanicals using Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator for book manufacturing.

-Design layouts and typography for book jackets and interiors.

-Art direct illustrators, colorists, photographers, and hand letterers.

-Collaborate with editors throughout the publishing process, from manuscript to finished book, through meetings, emails, and phone calls.

-Negotiate contracts with illustrators, colorists, photographers, and hand letterers.

-Organize and prioritize work in partnership with the Creative Director and Managing Editor while managing projects across multiple publishing seasons simultaneously.

-Attend biweekly production meetings to discuss schedules and key deadlines.

-Create special design projects, including logos for presentations, decks, acquisitions, and offer materials.

-Review color proofs for printing.

-Participate in weekly art department and cover concept meetings, providing feedback and creative input.

-Research and identify new illustrators, hand letterers, and photographers for book covers, graphic novels, and picture books.

-Develop pitch presentations featuring potential creative talent and design concepts.

MUST HAVE QUALIFICATIONS:

-Bachelor of Fine Arts degree or comparable professional experience.

-1+ years of graphic design experience preferred.

-Demonstrated talent in print design, typography, layout, and color application.

-Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.

-Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

-Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

-Ability to present ideas and work effectively with editors and creative teams.

-Interest in children's publishing and visual storytelling.

In this position, you may have access to client or customer systems, confidential and/or proprietary information or data. This position is onsite and requires you to work closely with other individuals in a collaborative team environment.
