Job description

About this role

Are you a detail-oriented accounting professional who enjoys owning your work and collaborating with others? Coulee Bank is seeking a Staff Accountant to support accurate financial reporting and keep day-to-day accounting operations running smoothly.

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, you’ll manage accounts payable, administer company credit cards, initiate biweekly payroll, and support account reconciliations, period-end close, and financial reporting. This role combines hands-on accounting responsibilities with opportunities to improve processes and work with colleagues across the Bank.

What You’ll Do

  • Manage accounts payable, including reviewing and coding invoices, coordinating approvals, maintaining vendor records, and resolving discrepancies.
  • Administer company credit cards and reconcile credit card activity.
  • Initiate biweekly payroll processing and reconcile related healthcare accounts.
  • Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
  • Complete assigned monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities for multiple entities.
  • Maintain fixed asset records and related documentation.
  • Assist the CFO with financial statements, year-end activities, regulatory reporting, and audit requests.
  • Help improve accounting procedures, allocation processes, and the monthly close.
  • Provide responsive, professional service while maintaining confidentiality and following Bank policies and internal controls.

What You’ll Bring

  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting or two to five years of relevant accounting or accounts payable experience, including reconciliations and transaction posting.
  • Experience in a bank or other financial institution with a structured monthly close process.
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills; experience with Jack Henry SilverLake is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to meet recurring deadlines.
  • Clear communication skills and a collaborative approach to working with colleagues and vendors.
  • Initiative, accountability, and sound problem-solving skills.
