About this role

We’re Hiring: Staff Accountant

Help Build a Reliable, Scalable Accounting Function for a Growing Multi-Location Dental Organization

Cook Dental Group is seeking a highly organized, detail-driven Staff Accountant who is motivated by accuracy, process discipline, and creating confidence in financial information. This is a full-time position located in Newport News, VA.

This role is ideal for an accounting professional who enjoys hands-on execution, thrives in a structured environment, and wants to help strengthen the financial backbone of a growing dental organization. You will work closely with internal leadership and external accounting partners to ensure that day-to-day financial activity is recorded correctly, reconciled consistently, and supported by clear documentation.

As Our Staff Accountant, You Will

Support the organization’s financial accuracy by:

  • Maintaining current and organized accounting records
  • Processing and coding transactions consistently across multiple entities
  • Completing bank, credit card, loan, and balance-sheet reconciliations
  • Managing accounts payable with accuracy, documentation, and proper approvals
  • Supporting payroll accounting, including compensation calculations and reconciliations
  • Assisting with revenue and collections reconciliation across multiple locations
  • Preparing assigned journal entries and accounting schedules
  • Supporting month-end close activities to ensure timely, reliable financial statements
  • Providing accounting information for internal reporting, budgeting, and forecasting
  • Protecting sensitive financial, payroll, and employee information
  • Following established accounting procedures and identifying opportunities for improvement

This role focuses on execution, accuracy, and consistency. It does not carry responsibility for financial strategy, accounting policy decisions, or senior-level financial oversight.

You May Be a Great Fit If You:

  • Have experience in bookkeeping or a Staff Accountant role
  • Understand core accounting principles and general ledger structure
  • Are confident managing accounts payable, reconciliations, and journal entries
  • Have strong Excel skills and experience with QuickBooks Online
  • Are highly organized and meticulous with documentation
  • Investigate discrepancies rather than simply processing transactions
  • Communicate clearly and collaborate well with both internal teams and external financial partners
  • Can manage recurring deadlines and maintain accuracy under time pressure
  • Value process discipline, consistency, and continuous improvement
  • Protect confidentiality and handle sensitive information with care

Preferred experience includes multi-location accounting, healthcare or dental industry familiarity, payroll accounting, and supporting monthly close processes. Foundational accounting skills and reliability matter most.

What Success Looks Like in This Role:

  • Transactions are entered correctly and consistently
  • Accounts reconcile every month
  • Bills are processed accurately and on time
  • Payroll accounting is reliable and well-documented
  • Month-end close information is ready when expected
  • Accounting schedules are current and organized
  • Discrepancies are investigated and resolved, not carried forward
  • Leadership can trust the underlying numbers used for reporting and decision-making

Compensation & Benefits

We offer a competitive compensation package aligned with the responsibilities of the role, including:

  • Competitive salary based on experience
  • Health, vision, and supplemental insurance options
  • Employer-provided dental benefits
  • Flexible paid time off
  • 401(k) retirement plan with employer match
