Company Overview
Columbia Debt Recovery, LLC, dba: Genesis, specializes in collections for the multi\-family industry. With over 15 years of combined experience in collections, sales, and customer service, we empower organizations to regain control of their delinquent accounts through innovative, solution\-oriented services.
Job Summary
Genesis is hiring a Software Engineer to help build the core systems behind our debt recovery operation, including the Genesis Console, our internal operational dashboard, and the integrations, automations, and data pipelines that connect our collection platform, payment systems, and business tools.
This is a hands\-on role for a full\-stack builder who ships working software quickly, and **who uses AI coding tools** every day to move faster without lowering the quality bar.
You will work directly with IT leadership, Operations, Compliance, Finance, and HR to turn real business problems into secure, reliable software. We value engineers who can take an idea from a conversation to a working product in days, and who can explain what they built to non\-technical leaders.
**Responsibilities**
- **Build and maintain applications and services.** Develop backend services, APIs, and user\-facing tools, including Console features used by every department.
- **Build with AI.** Use AI coding assistants and agents to prototype, write, test, and refactor code quickly, and review everything they produce for correctness, security, and maintainability.
- **Integrate our systems.** Connect the collection platform, payment processors and banks, telephony and dialer tools, HR and finance systems, and third\-party APIs, replacing manual exports and rekeying.
- **Design data models and APIs.** Support financial, compliance, and operational workflows with accurate, auditable, well\-documented data.
- **Automate manual work.** Turn repetitive reconciliations, reports, file transfers, and approvals into reliable automated workflows and dashboards (including Power BI).
- **Protect data and stay compliant.** Build with security, access control, logging, and audit trails in mind to support PCI DSS, GLBA, SOC 2, and client requirements.
- **Keep it reliable.** Own testing, monitoring, deployment, and documentation so others can run and extend what you build.
- **Collaborate and review.** Plan and deliver work with leadership and department owners, participate in code reviews, and share AI workflows and best practices with the team.
**Requirements**
- 3\-6 years of professional software engineering experience, with a track record of shipping production systems end to end.
- Strong backend skills in Node.js, TypeScript, Python, or similar, and working knowledge of React or a modern front\-end framework.
- Experience with relational databases (Postgres, SQL Server, or similar), REST or GraphQL APIs, and cloud platforms (AWS or Azure).
- Hands\-on daily use of AI coding tools (such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Copilot), with sound judgment about when to trust, verify, or reject their output.
- Strong problem\-solving and debugging skills, and comfort working in a fast\-moving, evolving environment.
- Clear communication, able to explain technical tradeoffs to non\-technical leaders, and a collaborative mindset.
**Nice to Have**
- Experience with fintech, payments, or collections systems, and payment APIs (Stripe, USAePay, or similar).
- Experience integrating with ERP, CRM, telephony, or legacy and vendor systems through APIs, file transfers, or database access.
- Experience with data pipelines, reporting, or BI tools such as Power BI.
- Familiarity with infrastructure\-as\-code, CI/CD, or DevOps workflows.
- Experience supporting SOC 2, PCI DSS, or similar security and compliance programs.
- Prior experience at an early\-stage startup or small engineering team.
