About the Role
T. Mark Fay Consulting, Inc. (Claim Toolkit) builds software that enterprise property and casualty carriers across the US and Canada rely on for claims audit, compliance, total loss, and auto liability work.
We are hiring a full-time, remote, US-based Full Stack Developer.
You will be the in-house technical owner of our production applications. That means keeping them running, secure, and compliant day to day, delivering enhancements our carrier clients request, and helping lead the modernization of our legacy Classic ASP applications. You will work alongside a small internal team and our external development partner, with wide latitude to design, build, test, and release your solutions.
Products You Will
Support
You will support all four Claim Toolkit product lines, with the heaviest day-to-day load in Total Loss and Compliance.
- Total Loss: calculates state-specific taxes and fees on total loss vehicle settlements. Main touchpoints are monthly tax and fee updates, state programming, vendor rate issues, new clients, Notice to Owner, and form letters.
- Compliance: tracks claims handling against state regulatory requirements. Main touchpoints are MFA and login reporting, SSO, new customer setup, and enhancements such as an interest calculator.
- Audit: supports carrier claim file audits. Main touchpoints are SFTP, Guidewire integration, SSO, enhancements, and product redesign.
- Auto Liability: supports auto liability claim evaluation. Main touchpoints are SFTP, Guidewire integration, SSO, enhancements, and product redesign.
Key Responsibilities
Production support and incidents (all products)
- Own incident response for all products, including 500 errors and failed scheduled jobs, with same-day diagnosis and resolution
- Write programming specs in real time when issues are found, and follow them through to release
- Manage the code deployment and release process
- Keep UAT documentation current, including server screenshots
- Contribute to hardware and infrastructure discussions
Total Loss system
- Complete monthly tax and fee updates and program future-dated changes
- Program state-specific rules in CORE and maintain them as regulations change
- When tax rate issues surface, retrieve XML files and work directly with vendors such as Thomson Reuters to investigate
- Set up new clients, modify vehicle types and categories, and add user access for select clients
- Maintain address validation, form letters, and Notice to Owner PDFs
- Rotate Dealertrack/Vitu credentials securely
- Produce client tax and fee reports on request (for example, all first-party claims finalized in a date range, with all taxes and fees)
- Explain how calculations are programmed so internal staff can answer client questions
- Support billing setup, invoices, and billing-related emails
Security and compliance
- Prepare for and respond to the annual penetration test, and implement remediation
- Keep MFA compliance reporting accurate and troubleshoot compliance reports
- Research enterprise SSO gaps, such as logins not captured when users reach Compliance through Total Loss
- Evaluate and, if approved, implement the Shibboleth upgrade
- Finish the WAF (Sucuri) rollout: confirm which sites are protected, add the remaining sites, and update .asp pages to prevent false blocking
- Set up new Compliance customers, in-house and external, using the onboarding checklist
Integrations, SSO, and SFTP
- Install and maintain SSO for all products, including annual certificate renewals, and coordinate rollouts with developers
- Manage SFTP and Guidewire integrations for Audit and Auto Liability
Enhancements
- Review enhancement requests with the Account Manager and help set priorities
- Define and run the enhancement process: intake, mockup, customer approval, customer review, build, release
- Build project timelines and keep work on schedule
Product modernization
- Help choose the target language and framework for rewriting legacy products, working with outside experts as needed
- Redesign products collaboratively with the team, translate designs into clear specs, and build with the development team
Customers and team
- Work directly with new and existing carrier clients when technical context is needed
- Mentor assigned team members and attend meetings as needed
Technical Qualifications
Required
- Hands-on production experience with Classic ASP/VBScript, plus ASP.NET, React and C#,GitHub
- Strong Microsoft SQL Server skills: complex queries, stored procedures, functions, views, triggers, jobs, and database design
- SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and Integration Services (SSIS) for reports and automated data imports
- JavaScript, jQuery, and React for front-end work
- RESTful API design and integration
- SSO implementation and certificate management (SAML, Shibboleth, or similar)
- IIS and Windows Server administration, including SFTP
- Full software development life cycle: requirements, specs, development, testing, deployment, and support
- Proven ability to troubleshoot production issues quickly
Preferred
- Node.js or other modern React frameworks
- Experience modernizing or rewriting legacy applications
- Web application firewall (WAF) configuration, MFA, and penetration test remediation
- Guidewire integrations
- P&C insurance or claims industry experience, especially total loss taxes and fees or state regulatory rules
The Successful Candidate
The right person is accurate, transparent about status, and disciplined about process, because our carrier clients depend on calculations and compliance data being right the first time.
- Accurate and honest about status. You report exactly where work stands, including what is not done or not yet validated. You never present something as complete before it is.
- Respects the QA process. Every fix goes through QA before anyone tells a client it is resolved. You keep incidents assigned and tracked through resolution.
- Flags blockers early. If testing is incomplete or something is blocking a release, you say so the same day rather than leaving it for someone to discover.
- Precise with regulated logic. You treat tax, fee, and compliance calculations as near-zero-error work and test against every affected state, client, and vehicle type.
- Documents as you go. You comment code to our standard, write clear specs and procedures, and turn undocumented knowledge of state rules and client setups into written reference material.
- Security-minded. You handle credentials, certificates, and server access carefully and raise anything that looks wrong, such as unexpected remote access or unfamiliar IPs.
- Responsive with clients and vendors. You engage directly with client questions and vendor escalations instead of passing them along, and you write in plain, direct language that leaves a clear paper trail.
- Applies feedback. You take feedback, change how you work, and do not repeat the same issue.
- Flexible and organized. You shift priorities when a production issue lands and still manage scope and timelines on longer projects.
- Curious about AI and automation. You are comfortable using AI tools in development and interested in our work on automated reporting, natural language queries, and AI-assisted workflows.
- Lives our core values: Excellence, Challenging Goals, and Kindness.
Work Requirements
This role must be US-based and available during US business hours, because production issues and client escalations need same-day response.
- Must reside and work in the United States; some client contracts require US-based development
- Available during core US business hours for incidents, vendor calls, and client escalations
- Able to respond to production issues, such as a 500 error at 2:00 PM, the same day
- Willing to pass a background check and follow our data access, credential, and security policies, since the role involves sensitive client data and production system access
