About This Position
The Phoenix Convention Center and Venues hosts a diverse range of conventions, trade shows, meetings, and entertainment events in one of the premier convention facilities in the United States. We are committed to delivering the highest levels of customer service and guest experience in the industry.
We enhance the economic vitality of the downtown area, the city of Phoenix and the state of Arizona by supporting tourism-related industries, businesses, and cultural organizations.
This position will create graphics for print, social media, interactive multimedia, video and film in connection with the marketing goals of the Phoenix Convention Center & Venues. This may include brochures of the facilities, artwork for advertisements, social media graphics and more. The Planning Graphic Designer works under the general supervision of the Public Information Officer.
Work is reviewed in terms of the effectiveness of the finished project. Considerable latitude and independence are allowed in the development and completion of projects.
Essential Functions Include
- Designs and prepares print, digital, social media, maps, displays, brochures and related marketing and communications materials.
- Makes artist conceptions of projects using various types of media.
- Advises on artistic and visual aid presentation of marketing materials.
- Performs video and image editing.
- Uses computer graphics and photo editing software to prepare comprehensive layouts various forms of media.
- Demonstrates superior seamless customer service, integrity, and commitment to innovation, efficiency, and fiscally responsible activity.
- Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
- Ability to translate requests into finished creative work.
- Ability to deliver final products promptly, demonstrating strong time management skills to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proficiency in editing graphics using Adobe Creative Suite products inclduing; Photoshop, InDesign, and Canva.
- Collaborate closely with PIO(public information officer)/ communications staff to transform complex or technical information into accessible, visually driven public messaging.
- Strong collaborative skills, allowing for effective teamwork with cross-functional departments such as sales and operations.
- Strong organization skills of archives of project assets, graphic design, multimedia materials, and visual documentation for future reuse and reference.
- Candidate showcases excellent written and verbal communication skills, effectively conveying ideas and engaging stakeholders.
- Finds creative solutions in fast-paced environments, juggling multiple deadlines while still producing polished, thought-out work.
- Communicates well with both creative and non-creative teammates, helping others visualize concepts and understand design possibilities.
- Shows enthusiasm for elevating the brand, finding new ways to make creative assets modern, welcoming, inventive, and unmistakably Phoenix.

SALARY
Pay Range: $30. 92 - $45. 67 per hour.
Hiring Range: $30. 92 - $43. 49 per hour.

Minimum Qualifications
- Associate's degree in computer graphics, art, or a related field.
- Two years of experience in commercial graphics design.
- Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
- All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position.
- This position requires the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.

Preferred Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Graphic Design, Marketing & Communications, or a related field is desired.
The Minimum Qualifications Listed Above, Plus Expience With/in
- Translating complex or technical information into public-facing designs.
- Creating visual communications to present to staff.
- Managing multiple design projects with competing deadlines.
- Creating materials including; logos, brochures, posters, fliers, maps, floorplans manuals, booklets e-newsletters, print layouts, murals, PowerPoint presentations, and large signage and displays that follow established brand guidelines.
- Developing visual concepts for social media, such as; motion graphics, short-form video content, animated elements, and interactive visuals.
- Creating digital and visual designs optimized for screens of all sizes throughout the facilities.
