Carex is partnering with a HealthTech startup partner to hire a technically strong Senior Research Scientist who will serve as the analytical backbone of a high\-profile, multi\-year national youth mental health initiative.
**This is a hybrid role in Washington, DC. **
This role will focus on designing rigorous research methods, producing high\-quality analyses, and engineering the data and measurement systems behind a nationally significant resource spanning four surveys and thousands of young people.
Working closely with research leadership, domain experts, product, and engineering teams, this individual will help make behavioral and youth thriving data accessible, scientifically credible, and actionable at scale.

What You'll Do
- Drive the development and refinement of a nationally significant youth thriving dataset spanning four surveys and thousands of participants.
- Design rigorous quantitative research methods, measurement approaches, validation studies, and analytical frameworks.
- Lead end\-to\-end analysis, from data preparation and statistical modeling through interpretation, documentation, and delivery of decision\-ready insights.
- Help evolve the data platform from static dashboards into an interactive experience where stakeholders can explore and query findings.
- Partner closely with product and engineering teams to build prototypes and AI\-enabled tools that allow stakeholders to independently interrogate behavioral data.
- Develop reliable analytical workflows and data products using R and/or Python within Databricks and Azure environments.
- Lead peer\-reviewed manuscripts, methods papers, and validation publications that strengthen the initiative’s scientific credibility.
- Translate complex analytical decisions into clear technical documentation and collaborate effectively with research, product, and engineering partners.
- Contribute in a fast\-paced startup environment by testing new approaches, navigating uncertainty, and continuously learning new methods and domains.
What You'll Bring
- A PhD or equivalent expertise, with 5\+ years of hands\-on, end\-to\-end quantitative research experience.
- Strong command of statistical methods, research design, measurement, and analytical validation.
- Advanced proficiency in R and/or Python for statistical analysis, data preparation, and research workflows.
- Solid data science skills and experience collaborating with product and engineering teams; familiarity with Databricks and Azure is preferred.
- Experience applying large language models or other generative AI approaches to research and analytics workflows.
- Experience building composite indices or measurement frameworks and/or conducting geospatial analysis is a strong plus.
- A demonstrated ability to produce rigorous scientific writing, technical documentation, and peer\-reviewed research.
- Clear scientific and technical communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
- Comfort working in a fast\-paced startup environment with ambiguity, evolving priorities, and opportunities for significant impact.
- Curiosity, adaptability, and a willingness to learn beyond an established area of expertise, paired with a practical “let’s try it” mindset.
**Compensation**
The salary range for this position is
**$125,000 to $145,000 annually**
The final compensation package will be based on factors such as relevant experience, technical skills, education, certifications, and market considerations. Eligible individuals may also receive annual performance\-based bonuses and equity.
