Our client is a well funded, rapidly scaling technology company building a mobile platform used by a large and growing global user base. The team is small, highly technical, and moves quickly, with engineers owning major product areas from concept through launch.
They are hiring a Staff Android Engineer to set the technical direction for their Android experience, raise the bar on architecture and code quality, and serve as the go to Android authority across engineering. This is a high impact, hands on role for someone who wants real ownership and a direct line to product and leadership decisions.
Responsibilities
- Own the architecture and long term technical direction of the Android application
- Design, build, and ship major features in Kotlin, from initial design through production release
- Lead the adoption and evolution of modern Android practices, including Jetpack Compose, Coroutines, and Flow
- Drive improvements in app performance, stability, startup time, and battery efficiency
- Establish standards for code quality, testing, modularization, and release processes
- Partner closely with product, design, and backend engineering to define APIs and shape the product roadmap
- Mentor and level up other engineers through code reviews, design reviews, and technical guidance
- Improve CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and monitoring for the mobile platform
- Identify technical debt and lead initiatives that improve scalability and developer velocity
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with significant time focused on native Android development
- Expert level proficiency in Kotlin (required)
- Experience operating at a Staff or Senior Staff level, or as the technical lead for a production Android app
- Deep knowledge of Android SDK, Jetpack libraries, and Jetpack Compose
- Strong command of Coroutines, Flow, and asynchronous programming patterns
- Proven experience designing scalable app architecture (MVVM, MVI, Clean Architecture, modularization)
- Track record of shipping and maintaining consumer facing apps at scale on Google Play
- Experience with dependency injection (Hilt or Dagger), REST and GraphQL APIs, and offline data persistence (Room)
- Strong testing discipline, including unit, integration, and UI testing
- Comfortable in a fast paced, high ownership startup environment with minimal process
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence technical decisions across teams
