About this role
Hybrid position based in Crofton Maryland
40 hours per week throughout the year, including tax season. No additional tax-season hours are required.
About the role
Bryan N Allen CPA LLC is seeking a Senior Accountant with public accounting experience serving construction contractors. You may focus on assurance, tax, or both. Strong experience in either area can qualify you for this position, and your assignments will reflect your background and strengths.
Our accounting and assurance practice includes financial statement preparation and review engagements. We use Caseware Cloud OnPoint PCR for preparation and review engagements. Our tax practice uses CCH ProSystem fx Tax for construction business and owner returns, supported by accounting-method workpapers, tax planning, and projections.
Work arrangement
· Full-time, year-round position with a 40-hour workweek, including tax season.
· Hybrid arrangement with remote work as the default. Occasional attendance at our Crofton, Maryland office and visits to client sites will be part of the role for meetings, collaboration, and engagement work.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities will be assigned according to your assurance or tax focus. You will work with firm management, communicate with clients, and prepare clear workpapers that support your conclusions.
Accounting and assurance assignments
· Prepare and review trial balance mappings, account reconciliations, adjusting entries, construction financial statements, and related disclosures.
· Analyze WIP and contract schedules and reconcile them to the general ledger and financial statements. Evaluate job costs, retainage, over/underbillings, estimated costs to complete, profit fade/gain, and loss jobs.
· Perform and document CPA review engagement inquiries and analytical procedures. Develop expectations, investigate significant fluctuations, obtain explanations, and document conclusions and follow-up.
· Complete planning documentation, checklists, supporting schedules, and assigned sign-offs in Caseware Cloud OnPoint PCR. Address review comments with the CPA manager and partner. Assist with occasional audit work in OnPoint Audit when appropriate to your experience.
Tax assignments
· Prepare or review federal and state business and individual returns for construction contractors and their owners, including Forms 1120S, 1065, 1120, and 1040 as assigned.
· Prepare and review accrual-to-cash conversions, completed-contract method calculations, and book-to-tax reconciliations. Tie adjustments to the accounting records and supporting contract schedules.
· Use CCH ProSystem fx Tax to prepare returns and resolve diagnostics. Assist with projections, estimated payments, tax notices, and research, and coordinate specialty tax information as needed.
Required qualifications
· At least 3 years of experience in a public accounting firm, with a background in assurance, tax, or both.
· Experience serving construction contractor clients and working with their accounting records, financial information, and job or contract schedules.
· Ability to reconcile information, identify discrepancies, exercise professional judgment, and document work and conclusions clearly.
· Strong organization and communication, the ability to manage assigned deadlines, and responsiveness to clients and the team while working remotely.
Experience in your area of focus
Candidates should meet the qualifications for at least one of the following areas. Experience in both is welcome.
Assurance focus
· Experience preparing or reviewing construction financial statements and disclosures, with knowledge of relevant U.S. GAAP and SSARS requirements.
· Experience performing CPA review engagement inquiries, analytical procedures, and related documentation, including WIP analysis and follow-up on significant findings.
· Experience using Caseware Cloud or similar electronic engagement software. Caseware Cloud OnPoint PCR experience is strongly preferred; audit experience is helpful.
Tax focus
· Experience preparing or reviewing construction business and owner individual tax returns, including accrual-to-cash conversions and completed-contract method calculations.
· Hands-on experience with CCH ProSystem fx Tax, supporting tax workpapers, and the flow of entity information to owner returns.
· Knowledge of relevant federal and state tax matters, including book-to-tax adjustments, owner basis, and loss limitations.
