Senior Freelance Bookkeeper / Internal Accounting Auditor (Project-Based)

About the Role

We are an established small business seeking a seasoned, detail-oriented Freelance Accounting IN-HOUSE Auditor & Bookkeeper to perform comprehensive reviews and cleanups of our financial records. This engagement is strictly project-to-project (flat fee per deliverable), focusing on full accounting audits, reconciliations, and compliance verification.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct deep-dive internal audits of balance sheets, income statements, and general ledgers.
• Identify discrepancies, unrecorded transactions, misclassifications, and reconciliation errors across multiple years/periods.
• Deliver clean, audit-ready financial statements and summary reports with actionable recommendations.

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Experience: Minimum 20+ years of hands-on experience in corporate accounting, full-cycle bookkeeping, and internal auditing.
• Small Business Expertise: Proven track record working with privately held small-to-midsize businesses.
• Software Proficiency: Advanced mastery of QuickBooks, Excel, and standard accounting software.
• Credentials: CPA, CMA, or advanced degree in Accounting/Finance preferred (or equivalent extensive practical experience).
• Communication: Experience responding to IRS formal requests.
