Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, the Associate HR Business Partner owns the day-to-day administration of leaves of absence, workers’ compensation claims, and unemployment claims, and supports the HR Business Partner function on employee relations, policy, and HR programs under the Director’s direction.

This is an ideal role for an HR professional looking to build a strong compliance foundation while growing into a broader HR Business Partner role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leave of Absence Administration:
  • + Manage the full leave lifecycle (FMLA, state and local leave, military, personal, and company leave), including eligibility, notices, certifications, and tracking; coordinate with payroll, benefits, and disability carriers to ensure accurate pay and benefit continuation

+ Support the ADA and state-law interactive process for accommodation requests, documenting each step and escalating complex or contested requests to the Director of HR

+ Coordinate return-to-work, including fitness-for-duty documentation and transitional or modified-duty assignments

  • Workers’ Compensation:
  • + Report workplace injuries to the carrier or TPA within required timeframes and serve as the primary liaison between adjusters, managers, and injured employees

+ Track open claims, lost time, and restricted duty; coordinate modified-duty and return-to-work plans, running FMLA and ADA obligations concurrently where permitted

+ Maintain OSHA 300, 300A, and 301 recordkeeping and support annual posting and electronic submission requirements

  • Unemployment Claims:
  • + Respond to state unemployment claims and separation information requests accurately and on deadline

+ Gather documentation and witness information; prepare for and represent the company at unemployment hearings

+ Track claim outcomes and charges and flag trends to HR leadership

  • HR Business Partner Support:
  • + Serve as a first point of contact for managers and employees on policy, process, and day-to-day HR questions, escalating issues as appropriate.

+ Assist with employee relations investigations and draft routine HR documentation, such as interview notes, summaries, corrective action, and employee communications, for review and approval

+ Support company-wide HR programs such as performance reviews, merit cycles, onboarding, exit interviews, and engagement initiatives

  • Compliance & Reporting:
  • + Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local requirements governing leave, workers’ compensation, unemployment, and employee records

+ Maintain confidential medical and claim records separately from personnel files, in accordance with applicable law and data privacy requirements

+ Generate reports on leave, workers’ compensation, and unemployment trends, costs, and compliance metrics

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2–4 years of human resources experience, including at least 1 year handling leave administration, workers’ compensation, or unemployment claims.
  • Working knowledge of FMLA, ADA, workers’ compensation, and state unemployment insurance processes.
  • Experience participating in unemployment hearings is preferred.
  • Strong written, verbal, presentation and communication skills, with the ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion and maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and advanced skills with Excel and PowerPoint.
