About this role
Confidential MedTech company | Commercial Business Analyst — working title | Lake Forest, California | In-office
The opportunity
This role connects distributor data with the decisions made by commercial leadership. The analyst will work across data integration, financial analysis, sales compensation, and reporting, bringing together information from multiple sources and making it reliable and useful.
For someone who enjoys understanding the data behind the numbers, rather than just presenting a finished dashboard, the breadth of this position may be a strong fit.
What you'll work on
1. Distributor Data Integration & Master Data Management
- Ingest, clean, and standardize large sales files from multiple independent distributors and across different formats.
- Match and normalize customer names, addresses, hospital affiliations, and service types to create consistent commercial data.
- Track and validate distributor adjustments, chargebacks, and product-level rebates.
- Use command-line scripts, batch files, and file-staging workflows to organize incoming files before import.
2. Compensation, Draws, and Baseline Management
- Establish and maintain sales performance baselines using prior-year results, historical run rates, and seasonal trends.
- Calculate, audit, and disburse monthly sales draws in accordance with compensation plans.
- Calculate quarterly commissions, checking quota attainment, split credits, and policy compliance.
3. Financial Analysis, Variance Reporting & Advisory
- Compare actual results with baselines and prior-year performance to identify volume shifts, performance drivers, and margin erosion.
- Identify potential revenue losses and model net-new business by sales territory.
- Partner with sales leadership to explain findings and inform territory performance and retention decisions.
4. Business Intelligence & Advanced Tooling
- Build and maintain Excel data models, dynamic pivot tables, and automated Power Query transformations for distributor data.
- Use Power Pivot to build relational models across multiple tables for deeper analysis.
- Develop and maintain Power BI dashboards and executive scorecards covering sales trends, commission attainment, and pipeline health.
Experience and skills
The supplied job description calls for:
- A bachelor's degree in business analytics, data science, finance, statistics, information systems, or a related quantitative field.
- At least three years of experience as a business analyst, sales operations analyst, commercial data analyst, or in a relevant role. Healthcare, medical device, or distributor-heavy industry experience is preferred in the written description.
- Advanced Excel skills, including formulas, XLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH, pivot tables, and macros/VBA.
- Power Query proficiency, including M code and data transformation pipelines, plus Power Pivot, DAX, and relational data modeling.
- Comfort using Command Prompt or batch scripting to organize and stage files.
- Experience combining external datasets, matching customer and hospital records, and maintaining master data quality.
- Ability to present complex financial and operational insights to executive sales leadership.
- Power BI skills are preferred, including DAX, report authoring, row-level security, dataset refreshes, and interactive dashboards.
Practical details
- Location: Lake Forest, California; in-office.
- Base salary: Up to approximately $130,000, subject to confirmation. Bonus and benefits will be discussed as details are confirmed.
