Membership & Marketing Manager

​The Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce is seeking an individual to join our team as our Membership & Marketing Manager. The Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce represents members from nearly 400 independent businesses and helps thousands yearly as part of its services.

Services include assisting more than 100,000 visitors annually at its Visitor Information Center and Information Kiosk, producing and distributing 100,000 planning guidebooks annually through trade shows, mailings, and information centers, and executing events such as Bar Harbor’s July 4th Celebration, Early Bird Pajama Sales & Bed Races, and member networking events.

The Membership & Marketing Manager is a dual-impact role designed to grow our vibrant business community and elevate the Bar Harbor brand. You will be the primary point of contact for our 400+ members while leading the digital and traditional marketing strategies that drive year-round visitation and local engagement.

We are looking for a relationship-driven, creative professional who can articulate the value of the Chamber, champion our local businesses, and craft compelling narratives that delight residents, visitors, and business owners alike.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Membership Growth & Engagement

• ​Recruitment: Actively identify and pitch potential new members, articulating the value proposition of the Chamber.
• ​Retention: Manage the annual renewal process and conduct "wellness checks" to ensure current members are utilizing their benefits.
• ​Onboarding: Lead orientation for new members, ensuring their business listings are optimized on our digital platforms.
• ​Networking: Assist the Events Coordinator with organizing and hosting "Business After Hours" and other networking events to foster community connections.

2. Marketing & Communications

• Content Strategy: Manage the Chamber’s social media presence (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn) and execute a cohesive content calendar.
• Digital Presence: Maintain and update the official Bar Harbor website with fresh blog content, event listings, and member news.
• Email Marketing: Design and distribute weekly e-newsletters for members and monthly inspiration emails for visitors.
• Collateral Production: Oversee the production of the annual Bar Harbor Planning Guide and other promotional print materials.

3. Community & Advocacy

• Regional Collaboration: Collaborate with the Executive Director on regional tourism initiatives and legislative advocacy for the business community.
• Chamber Agility: Perform other related duties as assigned to support the overall mission and operational goals of the Chamber.

Qualifications:

• Experience: 3-5 years of experience in marketing, communications, or association management.
• ​Tech Savvy: Proficiency with CRM software (e.g., ChamberMaster), CMS platforms (WordPress based), newsletter clients (Constant Contact) and graphic design tools (Canva and Adobe Creative Suite).
• Communication:Exceptional writing and interpersonal skills with the ability to pivot seamlessly from professional B2B emails to engaging B2C travel copy.
• ​Soft Skills: A natural "people person" who thrives on building relationships, negotiating solutions, and handling a fast-paced summer season with grace and wit.
• Local Knowledge: A deep understanding of the Bar Harbor/MDI business landscape and seasonal tourism cycles.
• ​Detail-Oriented: A structured, organized mindset with strong project-tracking skills and high attention to detail.
• ​Transportation: Possession of a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable, insured personal vehicle for travel throughout Mount Desert Island and the surrounding region.

Physical Needs:

• Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods.
• Occasional lifting of boxes (e.g., Guidebooks or event supplies) up to 30 lbs.
• Must be available to work on-site in Bar Harbor, including occasional weekends during peak festival seasons.

Compensation & Benefits:

​This is a full-time, exempt position with an expected 40-hour weekly schedule. The starting salary range is $54,080 to $58,240 annually ($26.00 to $28.00 per hour equivalent), commensurate with experience. We offer a competitive benefits package, including paid vacation, personal, and sick leave; paid holidays; employer-subsidized health and dental insurance; and a retirement plan with an employer match.
