The Role
We are looking for a detail-driven Staff Accountant to join our Finance team and help us build a faster, cleaner, more reliable close. Reporting to the Controller, you will own day-to-day accounting across AP, AR, inventory, sales tax, and reconciliations in a busy multi-channel distribution business.
This is a hands-on role for someone who likes clean books, clear processes, and seeing how the numbers drive real decisions. You will help us hit a monthly close of seven business days or less and give leadership reporting they can trust.
Key Responsibilities
Month-End Close & Reporting
- Prepare journal entries, accruals, and prepaid and fixed-asset schedules
- Reconcile bank, credit card, line-of-credit, and floor-plan accounts monthly
- Support the Controller in producing timely, accurate monthly financial statements and KPI reporting
- Maintain and improve close checklists and written procedures (SOPs)
Accounts Payable & Receivable
- Process vendor invoices, three-way match against POs and receipts, and prepare payment runs
- Manage customer invoicing, cash application, and collections follow-up, including government and dealer accounts
- Track vendor co-op, rebate, and credit receivables and make sure they are collected
Inventory & Cost Accounting
- Reconcile inventory to the general ledger and support cycle counts and year-end physical inventory
- Review landed costs, freight, and duties/tariffs for accurate product costing
- Support gross-margin and category profitability analysis
Tax & Compliance
- Prepare multi-state sales and use tax filings (CDTFA and other states) using Avalara
- Manage exemption and resale certificates for government, dealer, and tax-exempt customers
- Support payroll tax reconciliations, 1099 reporting, and annual audit or review requests
Cash & Systems
- Assist with weekly cash reporting and the 13-week cash forecast
- Support bank covenant reporting and borrowing-base calculations
- Help keep accounting data accurate in SAP Business One and connected systems
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent experience
- 2+ years of full-cycle accounting experience, ideally in distribution, wholesale, or retail
- Strong command of GAAP, account reconciliations, and month-end close
- Experience with an ERP system and advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups)
- High accuracy, strong organization, and the ability to hit deadlines
- Clear communicator who works well with Sales, Purchasing, and Operations
Preferred
- Experience with SAP Business One
- Multi-state sales and use tax experience, including Avalara
- Inventory accounting experience in a multi-channel (eCommerce, marketplace, B2B) business
- Familiarity with floor-plan financing, lines of credit, or borrowing-base reporting
- Progress toward a CPA, or interest in pursuing one
- Bilingual English/Spanish a plus
