READ THIS SECTION BEFORE YOU APPLY

This role has four hard requirements. If you do not meet all four, your application will be rejected. We would rather tell you now than waste your time.

1. Minimum 15 years in mechanical design. Firm.

Not 15 years in engineering generally.

2. Custom machine or automation design. You have designed complete machines or automated cells, not components that go onto someone else's equipment, and not process improvement on existing lines.

3. A Master's degree or a PE licence.

4. Full authorization to work in the United States. We do not sponsor visas, now or in the future.

On CVs: we will not credit a certification or a CAD package that appears only in a skills header. Show us the role, the project and what you did. Tell us which machines you designed, who they were built for, what you owned from concept through to production, and whether they went into service.

THE ROLE

Our client designs and builds custom automation equipment for manufacturers across a wide range of industries. The business is growing and is adding two senior mechanical engineers to the team. No two projects look the same, and mechanical design sits at the centre of every build.

This is a senior seat. You will own designs from concept through to production, working under limited supervision. That means making design calls, standing behind them, and helping the engineers around you do the same.

You can run one or several projects, and you will own customer-facing work.

  • Design molded, welded, etched, stamped, machined and extruded components in SolidWorks
  • Build 3D models, detailed drawings, assemblies and part files
  • Estimate automation systems and develop cost models
  • Conduct pFMEAs and risk assessments
  • Take part in design reviews, specifications and manuals to determine feasibility while holding to project timing
  • Coordinate and carry out design verification and validation testing with the reliability engineering group
  • Work with sales and management to shape automation concepts around live customer needs
  • Modify existing designs to improve performance, reliability, cost and manufacturability
  • Drive revisions and process updates through Engineering Change Notices
  • Assign part numbers, build Bills of Material and define product configurations
  • Own customer-facing work, including quoting, concept proposals and design reviews with customers
  • Lead design reviews and standards sign-off
  • Mentor associate mechanical engineers and technical staff
  • Get involved in vendor management where it suits you
  • Stamp or seal drawings on a limited basis where required, as we sometimes create permanent structures
  • Manage development tools, licenses, templates and process for the mechanical engineering group
  • Work to health, safety and quality standards including OSHA, RIA and ISO 13849-1 / EN 954-1

QUALIFICATIONS

HARD REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum 15 years in mechanical design
  • Design of complete custom machines or automated cells
  • A Master's degree or a PE licence
  • Strong 3D SolidWorks modeling, drawing generation and CAD database experience
  • Proven track record taking designs into production using DFM, FMEAs and other quality control methods
  • Full authorization to work in the United States. No visa sponsorship, now or in the future

NICE TO HAVE:

  • Experience mentoring or leading within an engineering function
  • ISO 13849-1, EN 954-1, RIA R15.08
  • Experience of machines designed and built to NFPA 79
  • Visual Components, FANUC RoboGuide

ENVIRONMENT AND TRAVEL

This is an onsite role at the Greer office with travel to client facilities and manufacturing plants depending on project responsibilities. Remote work is on a limited basis. Some evening, weekend or holiday work at times to support clients during project meetings, installations, commissioning, shutdowns and scheduled maintenance.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Moving between standing and sitting, walking, handling components, lifting or moving objects up to 10 lbs frequently and up to 25 lbs occasionally. Close vision, distance vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus are required.

HIRING PROCESS

Two to three stages depending on the candidate. Offers subject to background check and drug test.

Pay: $110,000.00 - $140,000.00 per year

Benefits:

  • Relocation assistance

Work Location: In person
