Spectrum Systems Engineer
About this role
Employer-provided description, formatted for easier reading.
RKF, an Auria company, is looking to hire a **Spectrum Manager \& RF/Software Engineer. ** This hybrid role primarily provides electromagnetic environmental effects (E3\) analysis support to the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA). When not supporting the primary DISA contract, you will step beyond traditional spectrum management to apply your software and RF engineering skills across other defense programs.
This includes developing new analytic tools, writing software, and building physical and mathematical models for modern communication systems. **This is a Hybrid schedule that requires 2 days/week minimum at Ft Meade, the other days can be remote. **
**WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO DO:**
- Perform electromagnetic compatibility analyses to determine if new MSP installations can operate compatibly in a specific geographical area without posing conflicts to nearby DoW Communications Equipment (C\-E) systems operations.
- Develop methods to mitigate predicted electromagnetic interference issues (EMI) when interference is predicted.
- Perform sub\-database searches of technical records for government C\-E systems from DoW and government master frequency databases.
- Perform intermodulation, radiation hazard, vulnerability, and other E3 compatibility predictions using computer propagation models.
- Develop, improve, and debug advanced RF modelling and simulation algorithms.
- Write C\+\+, Python, NodeJS, or similar code.
- Integrate or design different subsystems (database connections, spectrum\-dependent data models, Uls, server endpoints and their APIs, computation engines, etc.) in the context of a larger spectrum\-focused software system of systems.
**WHAT THE TEAM REQUIRES:**
- A Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics.
- 2\+ years experience and training in federal spectrum operations and RF engineering processes and procedures, or the design or management of cellular communications systems or other RF systems, is desirable.
- Ability to discuss and understand the technical design and operation of wireless RF (telecommunications and cellular communications) systems and the operation of wireless DoW C\-E receiver systems.
- Familiarity with basic radio frequency propagation equations and the operation principles of transmitters and antennas.
- Demonstrable understanding in one of: electromagnetics, radio Tx/Rx component\-specific modelling (including radars, GNSS, and SATCOM), and wireless communications fundamentals.
- Demonstrable command of C\+\+, Python, NodeJS, or similar language.
- Demonstrable command of industry\-standard C\+\+ development practices, such as version control, unit/integration/automated testing, and peer programming and code review processes.
- This position requires the candidate to be able to obtain a SECRET level security clearance.
+ To obtain a clearance you need to be a US Citizen and show proof of citizenship.
- Mission\-Driven Professional: Collaborative contributor motivated by the opportunity to develop cutting\-edge solutions that protect and serve both the nation and the world.
**WHAT THE TEAM PREFERS:**
- Active Secret clearance.
- 5\+ years experience and training in federal spectrum operations and RF engineering processes and procedures, or the design or management of cellular communications systems or other RF systems, is desirable.
- Prior military service in the field of Spectrum management and DoD systems operation.
- Knowledge of DoW spectrum management process and procedures; knowledge regarding use of DoW spectrum management tools (e.g., Spectrum XXI).
- A Masters in Electrical Engineering, Physics or Mathematics.
- DoW software development experience and computer programming is a plus.
- Demonstrable command of Python, JS, or other similar programming languages.
**PAY TRANSPARENCY:** The salary offered will be based on the selected candidate’s qualifications \- skills, education \& experience \- and the position level. $100,000 \- $160,000\.
**APPLICATION DEADLINE:** December 2, 2026
