About this role

Staff Embedded Software Engineer Location: Milpitas, CA (95035-7443) Job Type: Direct Hire Compensation: $100,000 – $200,000 / year About Our Client Step into a high-growth, industry-leading technology pioneer that is fundamentally transforming global broadband delivery through cutting-edge wireless architecture and custom proprietary SoCs.

Operating in a high-energy environment, our client breaks away from rigid corporate bureaucracy, offering an agile setting where engineering talent directly shapes market-defining products. They champion a collaborative, team-first culture centered on intellectual curiosity and personal ownership.

If you thrive in a lean environment where you can make an immediate, tangible impact on advanced hardware-software ecosystems, this is your chance to build the future of next-generation connectivity.

Position Overview As a Staff Embedded Software Engineer , you will anchor a specialized engineering group responsible for establishing and scaling the core operating architecture for advanced Fixed Wireless Access (ngFWA) solutions.

Success in this agile, high-impact setting requires high adaptability, a proactive mindset, and the capability to guide end-to-end projects from conceptualization to production without reliance on heavy corporate infrastructure. You will drive complex features to completion, champion technical excellence, and leverage advanced problem-solving skills to overcome intricate engineering barriers.

What You’ll Do

  • Partner cross-functionally with Hardware, Firmware, Software Teams, and Product Managers to architect, build, integrate, and test modern capabilities—translating system requirements into robust design documentation and comprehensive test plans.
  • Deliver core platform software insights to application teams to ensure the release of stable, high-performance systems.
  • Troubleshoot hands-on in a modern hardware lab environment, validating functionality, debugging complex anomalies, and implementing automated testing pipelines.
  • Investigate unfamiliar component datasheets, collaborate with silicon and board-level suppliers to resolve blockages, and translate those technical findings into hardware-software design enhancements.
  • Work closely with operations and manufacturing to drive software enablement for alternate component qualifications, BOM updates, and manufacturing pre-provisioning.
  • What You'll Need Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering (Master's preferred) or equivalent industry background.
  • Experience: 9+ years of hands-on C and C++ embedded systems development experience.

Core Expertise

Deep mastery of Linux and RTOS platform engineering on modern multi-core ARM-based embedded architectures.

Leadership

Proven technical leadership capability with a tracked history of steering large-scale features from conception to deployment.

Scripting

Solid proficiency in writing automation scripts using Python and Bash.

Toolchains

Direct experience managing cross-compilation toolchains built for embedded Linux ecosystems.

Lab Acumen

Comfortable navigating an electronics lab, probing hardware, and leveraging diagnostic tools such as JTAG debuggers, logic analyzers, and oscilloscopes.

Fundamentals

Exceptional communication abilities, meticulous attention to detail, and the skill to interpret intricate schematics and component specifications. What Would Make You Stand Out Background building embedded software for carrier-grade or enterprise telecommunications infrastructure (ideally involving internally designed SoCs).

Familiarity with modern open-source stacks and tooling

Git, Rust, Golang, Bazel, Buildroot, gRPC, Protobuf, Zephyr, U-Boot, and ATF. A solid conceptual grasp of digital signal processing (DSP) core concepts as applied to wireless systems (such as modulation, filtering, and baseband interfacing).
