Florida Nova LLC. is a Jacksonville City-based real estate and property management company with a diverse portfolio of commercial properties, along with business interests in restaurants, a marina, antiques,18th century paintings, and internet sales.

We operate with a hands-on, entrepreneurial approach, which means our Controller isn't buried in layers of corporate structure. You'll work directly with senior leadership, have real decision-making authority, and see the impact of your work across the organization.

About the Role

We're looking for an experienced Accounting Controller with a valid CPA license issued in the United Stated to lead our accounting department and oversee the financial operations of our real estate portfolio and related businesses.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who knows property accounting, enjoys being involved in the day-to-day business, and wants the ability to improve processes, lead a team, and make the accounting function their own.

You'll oversee financial reporting, closings, controls, cash flow and property-level accounting while working closely with Ownership, Property Management, Leasing, Construction and Legal.

What You'll Do

  • Lead monthly, quarterly and annual financial closings
  • Oversee property accounting and financial reporting
  • Review financial statements, balance sheets, income statements, bank reconciliations, AP/AR, accruals and journal entries
  • Monitor cash flow and prepare property-level and executive financial reporting
  • Oversee rent posting, tenant ledgers, vendor payments, deposits, credits and adjustments
  • Manage and develop the accounting team
  • Work directly with senior leadership and ownership on financial matters
  • Coordinate with outside accountants, auditors, tax professionals, lenders and vendors
  • Partner with Property Management, Leasing, Construction and Legal
  • Improve accounting procedures, reporting and department workflows
  • Help identify opportunities to make our financial operations more efficient and effective

What We're Looking For

  • A CPA with a valid CPA license issued in the United States
  • 8+ years of accounting experience, preferably within real estate or property management
  • Prior experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager or Senior Property Accountant
  • Strong understanding of multifamily, commercial or mixed-use property accounting
  • Hands-on experience with various Accounting Tools
  • Experience managing or mentoring an accounting team
  • Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills
  • Ability to communicate financial information clearly to both finance and non-finance teams
  • Organized, proactive and comfortable working in a fast-moving environment

A Plus

  • Experience improving or cleaning up reporting and accounting processes
  • Experience with an owner-operated real estate company
  • Experience working with multiple properties or business entities
  • Familiarity with Google Workspace

Why Liberty Harbor?

This isn't a Controller position where you'll simply maintain someone else's processes.

You'll have the opportunity to lead the accounting function, improve how things are done, work directly with decision-makers, and play an important role in a growing real estate organization.

If you're a strong property accounting professional who likes being hands-on, involved and able to make an impact, we'd like to hear from you.
