Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to build and expand our software-development-in-test capabilities across a growing portfolio of healthcare technology products and services. This role will be responsible for advancing test automation, quality engineering practices, reusable test frameworks, and continuous testing capabilities throughout the software development lifecycle.
The SDET will work closely with software engineers, product teams, architects, DevOps, and other quality engineers to shift quality earlier in the development process and improve the reliability, scalability, security, and maintainability of our applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Build, enhance, and maintain automated testing frameworks and software-development-in-test capabilities across enterprise healthcare applications and services.
- Design reusable automation components, libraries, utilities, test harnesses, test data solutions, and other shared quality engineering assets.
- Develop automated tests for web applications, APIs, microservices, backend systems, integrations, and data workflows.
- Partner directly with software engineers to ensure applications are designed for testability, reliability, maintainability, and observability.
- Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines, providing fast and actionable feedback throughout development and deployment.
- Develop and maintain appropriate unit, integration, API, end-to-end, regression, and system-level automated testing.
- Expand API and service-level automation to validate complex integrations and data exchanges between internal and external systems.
- Establish sustainable regression suites that maximize automation coverage while minimizing brittle or redundant tests.
- Improve test execution speed, reliability, reporting, diagnostics, and failure analysis.
- Develop strategies for automated test-data creation and management while protecting sensitive healthcare and patient information.
- Work with Product Management, Engineering, Architecture, DevOps, Security, and other stakeholders to establish clear acceptance criteria and quality requirements.
- Identify gaps in existing quality processes and introduce engineering practices that reduce escaped defects and improve overall software quality.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in software engineering, SDET, test automation, or quality engineering roles.
- Strong programming skills using languages such as C#, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, or similar modern languages.
- Hands-on experience designing and building test automation frameworks rather than solely executing existing automated tests.
- Experience with automation technologies such as Playwright, Selenium, Cypress, Appium, REST Assured, Postman/Newman, or comparable frameworks.
- Strong experience testing REST APIs, web services, microservices, and system integrations.
- Experience implementing automated testing within CI/CD environments using platforms such as Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or GitLab CI/CD.
- Solid understanding of software engineering principles, object-oriented development, design patterns, source control, branching strategies, and code-review practices.
- Experience with SQL and database/data-validation testing.
- Experience creating automated functional, integration, regression, and end-to-end tests.
- Experience working within Agile software development environments and collaborating directly with engineering teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Working knowledge of HIPAA requirements and appropriate handling and protection of Protected Health Information (PHI).
- Understanding of healthcare-related privacy, security, compliance, and auditability considerations and familiarity with healthcare interoperability standards and technologies such as HL7 and FHIR.
- Experience validating healthcare APIs, clinical or administrative data exchanges, eligibility, claims, patient/member data, or similar healthcare workflows.
