About this role
Staff Accountant – Job Description
Anderson Lock & Safe is hiring a Staff Accountant to own its books in QuickBooks Online and close every month by the 5th.
About Anderson Lock & Safe
Anderson Lock & Safe has been securing Arizona since 1966. We are a Phoenix-based commercial locksmith and security company with about 60 employees and a branch in Wichita, Kansas. Our team installs and services locks, safes, door hardware, access control and cameras for businesses across the Valley.
We are growing fast, through new customers and acquisitions, and we need clean, timely numbers to keep growing well.
The role
You will own our books in QuickBooks Online and close every month by the 5th. Leadership uses your reports to see how the business is doing and to make decisions in our weekly leadership (L10) meeting. You will keep two sets of books: our operating company (including the Wichita branch) and our real estate company.
If you are an expert in QuickBooks Online and like turning a messy month into a clean close, this job is for you.
Key responsibilities
Month-end close and reporting
- Close the books by the 5th of each month for both companies.
- Prepare the monthly P&L, balance sheet, cash flow statement, department-level P&Ls and budget-to-actual reports.
- Reconcile all bank, credit card, loan and balance sheet accounts every month.
- Record journal entries, accruals, and payroll entries.
- Present results clearly to the VP of Administration & Finance and the leadership team.
QuickBooks Online and ServiceTitan
- Keep QuickBooks Online clean: chart of accounts, classes and closed periods.
- Find and fix errors in the integration between ServiceTitan (our field service software) and QuickBooks Online.
- Make sure invoices, payments and job costs that come over from ServiceTitan are complete and accurate.
Sales tax, AP and planning
- Prepare and file sales tax returns on time.
- Support accounts payable as needed, including vendor bills and payment runs.
- Help build the annual budget and simple forecasts, and track results against them.
- Take on other accounting projects as the company grows including preparing payroll prior to it being submitted to the PEO
Qualifications Required
- Bachelor's degree in accounting.
- Expert-level, hands-on skill in QuickBooks Online. This is the most important part of the job.
- Experience closing the books monthly and preparing financial statements.
- Strong understanding of accruals, reconciliations and journal entries.
- Comfortable in Excel or Google Sheets.
- Detail-oriented, organized and able to hit deadlines every month.
Nice to have
- Experience with ServiceTitan or another field service software that syncs to QuickBooks.
