What you'll do

  • Own the monthly and quarterly close for a portfolio of operating properties and joint-venture entities
  • Review journal entries, reconciliations and financial packages prepared by Property Accountants; train and mentor junior staff
  • Prepare and review investor, lender and partner reporting, including waterfall distributions, debt covenant compliance and draw requests
  • Account for development and construction projects: capitalized costs, interest capitalization, construction loan draws and placed-in-service conversions
  • Manage intercompany accounting, allocations and consolidations across ownership entities
  • Oversee CAM, real estate tax and insurance reconciliations
  • Lead year-end audit preparation and coordinate with external auditors and tax preparers on K-1s and returns
  • Build annual operating budgets and reforecasts with property management and asset management
  • Identify and implement process improvements, internal controls and system enhancements
  • Support acquisitions, dispositions and refinancings, including closing statement entries and property onboarding

What you bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 3+ years of accounting experience, with at least 1 in real estate accounting
  • Strong command of GAAP, including lease accounting and capitalization rules
  • Advanced proficiency in Yardi, MRI or a comparable real estate ERP
  • Advanced Excel skills; comfort building schedules, models and reconciliations from scratch
  • Experience reviewing others' work and meeting tight reporting deadlines
  • Clear communicator with property managers, asset managers, lenders and auditors

Nice to have

  • CPA or CPA-eligible

  • Experience with LIHTC, tax-exempt bond or other affordable housing compliance

Pay: $75,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
