Position Overview

American Shipping Company is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Treasury & Senior Accountant to join our Accounting and Finance team. This is a hybrid accounting and treasury role that requires a strong understanding of financial operations within the logistics, freight forwarding, transportation, or customs brokerage industry.

The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience in treasury functions, cash management, general accounting, account reconciliations, and financial reporting. This individual will play an important role in managing daily financial transactions, maintaining accurate accounting records, monitoring cash flow, and supporting the overall financial health of the organization.

We are looking for someone who is analytical, organized, proactive, and comfortable working in a fast-paced logistics environment where accuracy, financial controls, and timely reporting are essential.

Key ResponsibilitiesTreasury & Cash Management

• Manage and monitor daily cash positions, bank balances, and cash flow activities across company accounts.
• Prepare and maintain short-term cash flow forecasts to support operational and financial planning.
• Perform daily and monthly bank reconciliations, investigating and resolving discrepancies.
• Coordinate domestic and international wire transfers, ACH payments, and other banking transactions.
• Monitor incoming customer payments and outgoing vendor disbursements to ensure proper cash management.
• Assist in managing banking relationships, treasury controls, and financial procedures.
• Track foreign currency transactions and exchange rate fluctuations related to international logistics operations.
• Support management in identifying opportunities to improve cash flow, working capital, and financial efficiency.

General Accounting & Financial Reporting

• Assist with daily accounting activities, including journal entries, general ledger maintenance, and account reconciliations.
• Support month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring accuracy and timely completion.
• Assist in preparing management reports, and supporting schedules.
• Analyze financial transactions, investigate variances, and recommend appropriate adjustments.
• Support accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, including payment reconciliation and ensures vendor terms as needed.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
• Maintain accurate documentation and supporting records for audits, financial reviews, and compliance requirements.
• Work closely with management to strengthen internal controls and improve accounting processes.

Logistics & Freight Forwarding Financial Operations

• Review and reconcile financial transactions related to freight forwarding, customs brokerage, transportation, and logistics services.
• Coordinate with operations, billing, and customer service teams to resolve invoice discrepancies and payment issues.
• Monitor customer collections and vendor payment obligations to support cash flow and borrowing requirements.
• Review shipment-related financial transactions to ensure accurate cost allocation and revenue recognition.
• Ensure financial transactions are properly recorded and aligned with company accounting policies and procedures.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in accounting, treasury, cash management, or a combination of these functions.
• Prior experience in freight forwarding, logistics, transportation, customs brokerage, or a related industry preferred.
• Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, bank reconciliations, and month-end closing procedures.
• Hands-on experience with cash management, banking transactions, ACH payments, and wire transfers.
• Familiarity with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and financial reporting.
• Experience working with international transactions and multiple currencies is a plus.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and financial analysis.
• Experience with accounting software, ERP systems, or logistics financial platforms; familiarity with CargoWise or similar systems is a plus.
• Understanding of GAAP and standard accounting principles.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with accounting, operations, and management teams.
• High level of accuracy, confidentiality, and attention to detail.
