About this role
Staff Accountant (Entry Level)
Alaska Travel Adventures · Juneau, Alaska · Full-time, on-site
About us
Alaska Travel Adventures runs shore excursions and tours for visitors to Southeast Alaska, based in Juneau. Our accounting team keeps a seasonal, fast-moving business running on accurate numbers, and we are looking for someone early in their career who wants to grow with us.
The role
The Staff Accountant is a full-time, on-site position in our Juneau office, reporting to the accounting leadership team. You will learn the full accounting cycle hands-on, from daily transactions through month-end close, with real responsibility from your first season.
What you'll do
- Process accounts payable: code and enter vendor invoices, prepare payment runs
- Review and reconcile staff company credit card activity and expense receipts
- Reconcile bank and balance sheet accounts monthly
- Prepare journal entries for accruals, prepaids, and other month-end items
- Support month-end close and seasonal reporting
- Assist with year-end audit requests and schedules
- Help improve processes in our accounting system as you learn it
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, or completing one by start date
- Working knowledge of debits, credits, and basic financial statements
- Comfortable in Excel (lookups, pivot tables)
- Detail-oriented, organized, and reliable with deadlines
- Able to work on-site in Juneau
Nice to have
- Internship or 0–2 years of accounting experience
- Experience with QuickBooks, NetSuite, or a similar system
- Interest in pursuing a CPA license
Growth path
This is a starting point, not a ceiling. Strong performers can move from Staff Accountant to Senior Accountant, taking on more of the close, reporting, and analysis as their skills grow.
- Cross-training across AP, reconciliations, close, and reporting
- Direct mentoring from experienced accounting leadership
- Support for professional development, including CPA exam preparation
- Exposure to budgeting and financial analysis in a real operating business
Location and housing
This role is based in Juneau, Alaska, and requires working on-site. We do not offer a relocation package. If you are moving to Juneau, we will help you find housing by sharing local leads, rental contacts, and neighborhood advice from our team.
