Application Systems Engineer II
Alameda County is looking for a Full Stack Java Developer – Application Systems Engineer 2 to join our team and be responsible for designing, developing, and supporting various Java applications and administrator tasks. This will be a highly technical role with some functional aspects as well. The job is onsite in Oakland, CA.
You must be able to communicate with managers, peers, and customers in a team environment to achieve results.
Requirements /Job Duties:
· 5+ years of experience developing enterprise web applications using Java, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, and modern frontend frameworks such as Angular
· Strong experience with Spring Framework / Spring Boot, RESTful APIs, and enterprise application development
· Experience designing and developing responsive, accessible, and dynamic web applications
· Strong backend development experience integrating Java applications with Microsoft SQL Server databases
· Ability to design database schemas, create tables, develop complex queries, stored procedures, and database functions
· Experience integrating with internal and external APIs using RESTful web services
· Experience deploying and supporting applications in JBoss or similar enterprise application server environments
· Understanding of secure coding standards, authentication/authorization concepts, and application security best practices
· Experience implementing automated testing strategies including unit, integration, end-to-end, and performance testing
· Understanding of software engineering principles including modular design, scalability, resiliency, and maintainability
· Experience working within Agile and/or Waterfall delivery environments
· Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills
· Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies and business domains
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in MIS, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field.
The equivalent of two (2) years full-time experience designing, developing, analyzing, supporting, and implementing complex software systems.
The equivalent of five (5) years full-time experience designing, developing, analyzing, supporting, and implementing complex software systems, possession of a bachelor’s degree.
PREFERRED/DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
· Experience with Java 17/21 and modern Java language features
· Experience modernizing or migrating legacy Java enterprise applications
· Knowledge of accessibility standards including Section 508 and WCAG compliance
· Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Git-based workflows, and cloud deployment technologies

Pay: $154,835.20 - $188,219.20 per year
