About this role
Job Overview
Most operations seats ask you to follow the process. This one asks you to question it, fix it, then figure out how to automate it.
AirWorks is a 16-year-old residential HVAC and plumbing company serving Ventura County with a team of about 35. Our field operations run on systems. Our back office has been running on one person catching everything.
We're hiring the leader who changes that.
The Seat
You'll own our back office: accounting administration, HR and employee experience, compliance, systems and SOPs, vendors and company assets. You'll sit on our leadership team alongside the heads of Lead Generation, Lead Processing, Sales and Service, and Production. You'll come in with a small team already in place and manage any outside accounting vendors.
As the company grows, the team you oversee grows with.
What Makes This Different
You own outcomes, not tasks. When a number looks wrong, you don't pass it up the ladder. You find out why, recommend the fix and see it through.
You modernize how we work. We're moving fast with AI and automation. When you see a repetitive process, your first question is how to simplify it, automate it or eliminate it.
You don't need to be a developer. You do need to be curious, experiment and actually implement.
You create healthy tension. You'll push other departments when something doesn't add up, and you'll welcome the same pressure in return.
You're the person people trust. The whole team knows you'll have the answer, or find it, and follow through.
What You'll
Own
- Financial administration oversight: managing our outside accounting vendors, ensuring accuracy, clean records, and timely reporting
- Data integrity and reporting: making sure what our systems say is actually true
- Systems and automation: our software stack, integrations, and building AI-powered workflows
- SOPs and process: keeping our playbook current and making it better
- HR administration: onboarding, employee records, benefits
- Compliance: licenses, permits, filings, contracts and audit-ready records
- Vendor relationships and company assets
What Success Looks Like
By day 90, you've taken full ownership of core back-office functions and fixed problems nobody asked you to look for. By six months, you've automated or eliminated real work, and the back office runs without anyone checking behind it.
You'll Thrive Here If You
- Have 3+ years in operations, office management or administrative leadership
- Have hands-on financial administration experience
- Already use AI tools to work faster, or can't wait to
- Have an "I'll figure it out" mentality and are humble enough to roll up your sleeves
- Communicate clearly in writing and in person
Bonus Experience
- Home services or field service background
- ServiceTitan experience
- An automation or workflow you've built yourself
Compensation
$90,000+ base (DOE) plus bonus opportunity, depending on experience. Benefits will be discussed during interviews.
