- Create and maintain 3D solid models, assembly layouts, detailed engineering drawings, specifications, bills of materials, and other technical documentation.
- Perform engineering calculations and analyses to validate designs, evaluate performance, and ensure mechanical integrity.
- Review engineering designs and documentation to identify errors, assess potential improvements, and recommend corrective actions.
- Evaluate manufacturing processes and capabilities to identify design or process deficiencies and develop practical, cost-effective solutions.
- Collaborate with Project Managers to establish project scope, estimate engineering hours, and develop realistic project schedules and deliverables.
- Communicate with customers and sales personnel to understand project requirements, clarify technical specifications, and develop appropriate engineering solutions.
- Prepare cost estimates for new projects, including consideration of materials, components, manufacturing requirements, and engineering resources.
- Manage multiple engineering projects simultaneously, monitoring progress and communicating timelines, deliverables, and potential challenges to key stakeholders.
- Work closely with manufacturing and other internal teams to support design implementation, troubleshoot issues, and ensure designs can be effectively manufactured and assembled.
- Support the development and expansion of Flex Machine Tools' product offerings through continuous improvement and innovative engineering solutions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements

- Minimum of five years of relevant mechanical engineering experience.
- Minimum of five years of experience using CAD software for mechanical design and drafting.
- Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, materials, manufacturing processes, and mechanical systems.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and customer requirements.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop practical solutions to complex engineering challenges.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical information clearly to individuals at all levels of the organization and to external customers.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects, competing priorities, and deadlines.
- Ability to work collaboratively across engineering, project management, sales, and manufacturing functions.
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Experience in product development, from initial concept and design through testing and implementation.
- Experience designing CNC machining centers, custom machinery, or other complex mechanical equipment.
- Experience with workholding, tooling, and part fixturing.
- Familiarity with electrical systems and the integration of mechanical and electrical components.
- Experience working in a large-machine manufacturing or custom machine-building environment.
- Experience with design-for-manufacturability principles and continuous improvement initiatives.
