About this role

About Affordable At Home Care

Affordable At Home Care, Inc. provides personalized in-home care services to individuals and families throughout Oregon and Washington. As our organization continues to grow, we are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Senior Accountant to support our financial operations and provide accurate, timely financial information to executive leadership.

Position Summary

We are looking for a hands-on Senior Accountant who can independently manage payroll processing, general ledger accounting, monthly financial statements, and budgeting support.

Reporting directly to the President, this position is responsible for processing payroll through ADP Workforce Now, completing all QuickBooks general ledger postings, managing month-end accounting activities, reconciling accounts, and preparing monthly financial statements and budget-to-actual reports.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys taking ownership of accounting processes, maintaining accurate financial records, and working directly with executive leadership.

This is a non-supervisory accounting position. The ideal candidate is organized, analytical, trustworthy, and comfortable managing recurring deadlines with minimal oversight.

Key Responsibilities

Payroll Administration

  • Process full-cycle payroll using ADP Workforce Now.
  • Review timekeeping, pay rates, overtime, bonuses, deductions, and payroll adjustments for accuracy.
  • Reconcile payroll registers, payroll taxes, payroll liabilities, and related general ledger accounts.
  • Coordinate payroll tax reporting and year-end payroll documentation.
  • Research and resolve payroll discrepancies while maintaining strict confidentiality.

QuickBooks and General Ledger

  • Complete all assigned general ledger postings and accounting entries in QuickBooks.
  • Prepare journal entries, accruals, prepaids, depreciation, payroll entries, and month-end adjustments.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, balance sheet accounts, payroll accounts, and other general ledger accounts.
  • Investigate discrepancies and maintain accurate supporting schedules and documentation.
  • Ensure transactions are recorded accurately in the appropriate accounting period and location.

Month-End Close and Financial Reporting

  • Manage the month-end close process and meet established deadlines.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements, including the income statement and balance sheet, and cash flow statements as required.
  • Complete monthly account reconciliations and supporting schedules.
  • Analyze financial results, identify unusual fluctuations, and explain significant variances.
  • Prepare monthly financial reporting packages for the President.
  • Assist with year-end close, external CPA requests, audits, and tax preparation support.

Budgeting and Financial Analysis

  • Assist with annual operating budget preparation and financial forecasting.
  • Prepare monthly budget-to-actual reports.
  • Analyze financial trends and investigate significant variances.
  • Assist with cash flow projections and financial modeling.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting accuracy, and financial efficiency.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Five or more years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with general ledger accounting and month-end close.
  • Experience preparing monthly financial statements and account reconciliations.
  • Hands-on QuickBooks experience.
  • Experience processing payroll and reconciling payroll-related accounts.
  • Working knowledge of budgeting and budget-to-actual analysis.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and maintain confidential information.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Preferred:

  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Experience in healthcare, home care, or another multi-location service organization.
  • Experience with annual budgets, financial forecasting, and external CPA or audit support.

What Success Looks Like

The successful candidate will:

  • Process payroll accurately and on schedule.
  • Maintain complete and accurate QuickBooks accounting records.
  • Deliver timely, reliable monthly financial statements.
  • Complete account reconciliations and month-end close activities consistently.
  • Provide useful budget-to-actual analysis and financial variance explanations.
  • Maintain strong documentation, confidentiality, and internal controls.
