About this role

About Us

We work with leaders of large federal programs and agencies to modernize the systems and data their missions depend on. Our teams build and run platforms that people rely on every day, from housing services for service members and their families to education data used by every state.

The work is practical: replacing aging systems without disrupting the people who depend on them, making data reliable enough to act on, and delivering in small, tested increments. We're a team of engineers, architects, and delivery leads who care about doing this well, and we're looking for people who want to do the same.

Position

We are seeking two Full Stack Software Engineers to join our team. In this position, you will design, develop, and maintain front-end and back-end components of the platform, working with product owners, UX designers, architects, and other engineers. This position supports a Department of Defense digital services platform that helps military spouses find education and career resources.

The position is remote, with occasional travel for onsite events, and can continue through a Permanent Change of Station (PCS) move. Military spouses are encouraged to apply. This position is contingent upon contract award.

What We Offer

  • Do meaningful client work and grow professionally, with support for your education and development.
  • Work in a collaborative, team-first culture that looks out for its members, with a full benefits package.
  • Work remotely in a flexible environment, with optional access to our northern Virginia office.
  • Meet colleagues from across the country at our annual all-company gathering.
  • Grow into senior and principal roles through defined career paths.

How We

Work

  • Scrum-Aligned Collaboration: We believe in clear goals, user stories, acceptance criteria, and automated testing. We actively participate in planning, reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Team-First Culture: We seek help early and offer help freely. We elevate our standards through design reviews, pair programming, and shared knowledge management.
  • Outcome-Driven Delivery: We measure our impact (mission, performance, quality, cycle time), iterate on our processes, and stay focused on delivering customer value.

Key Responsibilities

  • Full Stack Development: Design, develop, and maintain both front-end (Angular and TypeScript) and back-end (Microsoft .NET and C#) components of a cloud-hosted enterprise digital services platform in AWS GovCloud (IL4)
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with product owners, UX designers, architects, and other engineers to translate Jira user stories and Figma designs into working software solutions
  • Web & Serverless Services: Develop scalable web applications and serverless back-end services (Amazon API Gateway, AWS Lambda, AWS Step Functions, and Amazon SES, delivered through CloudFront and AWS WAF) that support high availability and secure access for distributed user communities
  • Incremental Modernization: Build and extend the decoupling API in front of the legacy applications so components can be replaced incrementally while existing portals and integrations continue unchanged
  • Agile Delivery: Participate in Agile development activities including sprint planning, backlog refinement, code reviews, and sprint demonstrations
  • Feature Development: Implement application features, enhancements, and bug fixes across the application stack
  • APIs & Integrations: Develop and integrate RESTful APIs and back-end services that support data exchange across multiple systems, including the Government’s SOAP-based authentication service (DEERS and DS Logon) and REST and SFTP partner data feeds
  • AI Features: Integrate Government-approved AI capabilities through Amazon Bedrock, such as job matching, resume and document extraction, and drafted text
  • Testing & DevSecOps: Contribute to automated unit and regression testing, code quality practices, and CI/CD pipelines (Git flow, AWS CodeBuild, and AWS CodePipeline) within a DevSecOps delivery model that includes static security scanning, dependency checks, and automated Section 508 checks on every build
  • Troubleshooting: Support troubleshooting, performance optimization, and operational improvements across application components

What We're Looking For (Must Have Qualifications):

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a related technical field
  • 5 or more years of experience developing web applications or enterprise software systems
  • Angular & .NET: Proficiency in Angular and TypeScript for client-side development and in Microsoft .NET (C#) for server-side development
  • APIs & Web Services: Experience developing RESTful APIs and back-end services and integrating SOAP web services supporting web applications
  • Relational Databases: Experience working with relational databases (PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server) from application code, including writing SQL
  • Accessibility: Experience building web applications that conform to Section 508 and WCAG accessibility standards
  • Agile: Experience working within Agile development environments and collaborating with cross-functional teams
  • DevSecOps: Experience contributing to DevSecOps practices including Git version control, peer code review, automated builds, and CI/CD pipelines
  • Teamwork: Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work collaboratively within engineering teams
  • Eligibility: U.S. citizenship and a favorably adjudicated Tier 3 background investigation or higher (an active DoD Secret or Top Secret clearance qualifies) before starting work.
  • DoD 8140: Ability to meet DoD 8140.03 qualification requirements for the assigned DoD Cyber Workforce Framework (DCWF) work role

Nice-to-Haves (Bonus Points If You Have):

  • Experience developing applications hosted in AWS, preferably AWS GovCloud, using serverless services such as AWS Lambda, Amazon API Gateway, AWS Step Functions, and Amazon DynamoDB
  • Familiarity with infrastructure as code and modern application deployment practices, including canary and blue/green releases with documented rollback
  • Experience working within DevSecOps environments using automated build and deployment tools such as AWS CodeBuild and CodePipeline, static code scanning tools such as SonarQube or Fortify, and software bill of materials (SBOM) generation
  • Experience supporting applications that integrate with external systems and data services, such as DEERS and partner data feeds
  • Familiarity with Amazon Bedrock or other generative AI and machine learning services integrated into web applications
  • Experience incrementally modernizing legacy applications behind an API layer (strangler pattern)
  • Familiarity with usability and user experience best practices for web applications, including implementing designs from Figma
  • Experience supporting federal or large enterprise digital platforms, including the DISA Application Security and Development STIG and RMF/ATO environments
  • AWS certifications (such as AWS Certified Developer or AWS Certified Solutions Architect) are a plus
