Occupational Therapist-School Setting

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive occupational therapy assessments to identify students’ strengths and areas for growth, focusing on areas such as ADLs (Activities of Daily Living), sensory processing, motor skills, and cognitive functions.
• Develop individualized treatment plans aligned with each student’s unique needs, goals, and educational objectives.
• Implement evidence\-based occupational therapy programs that support students with disabilities, including those with autism spectrum disorders and neurodevelopmental disorders.
• Assist students in improving daily living skills, fine and gross motor skills, and sensory integration to promote independence within the school environment.
• Collaborate closely with teachers, speech\-language pathologists, physical therapists, and other team members through clinical interprofessional collaboration to ensure cohesive support strategies.
• Maintain accurate medical documentation, clinical notes, and progress reports using electronic health records (EHR) management systems in compliance with regulatory standards.
• Participate in discharge planning and case management activities to ensure smooth transitions for students moving between educational or healthcare settings.
• Support students’ participation in extracurricular activities by adapting environments or activities as needed for accessibility.
• Provide training and consultation to school staff and families on implementing therapeutic strategies and accommodations for students with special education needs.

Experience

• Proven experience working with children in pediatric occupational therapy settings, including early intervention programs, outpatient clinics, or school environments.
• Demonstrated expertise in conducting occupational therapy assessments related to pediatrics and school\-aged populations.
• Experience working with individuals with disabilities such as autism spectrum disorders, neurodevelopmental disorders, physical disabilities, or sensory processing challenges.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, physiology, anatomy relevant to pediatric occupational therapy practices.
• Background in developing treatment plans focused on improving client care through evidence\-based practices.
• Familiarity with medical documentation standards and electronic health records (EHR) systems used within educational or healthcare settings.
• Prior experience working within inpatient facilities, skilled nursing facilities, home health services, or outpatient clinics is advantageous but not required.
