Job Description

The Principal Mechanical Engineer will provide project support through custom design and analysis for complex machinery and mechanical systems. This role focuses on developing innovative concepts, detailed engineering designs, and robust calculations to support a wide range of projects.

The engineer will play a key role in the full lifecycle of mechanical systems, from concept and design through implementation, while collaborating closely with a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Design complex machinery, including gearing, actuators, wheels, weldments, bearings, and related mechanical assemblies.
• Develop and refine mechanical concepts and engineering designs to meet project requirements and performance targets.
• Produce detailed engineering calculations and analyses to validate designs and ensure safety, reliability, and manufacturability.
• Serve as Project Engineer for assigned projects, overseeing all aspects of mechanical design and implementation.
• Create detailed 3D models and drawings using SolidWorks to support manufacturing and assembly.
• Apply GD&T principles to ensure clear communication of tolerances and functional requirements on engineering drawings.
• Contribute to new product development initiatives by designing mechanisms and machine components that meet functional, cost, and schedule objectives.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve design challenges and support successful project execution.
• Participate in design reviews and incorporate feedback to continuously improve design quality and performance.

Essential Skills

• 3+ years of SolidWorks design experience.
• 3+ years of mechanism design experience.
• 3+ years of hands-on SolidWorks usage for 3D modeling and detailing.
• Strong experience in mechanical engineering and mechanical design.
• Proficiency in designing complex machinery, including gears, actuators, wheels, weldments, bearings, and related assemblies.
• Experience with machine design and mechanism design.
• Ability to use SolidWorks for detailed mechanical design and documentation.
• Understanding and practical application of GD&T in mechanical drawings.
• Capability to support projects as a Project Engineer, including design and implementation activities.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with design calculations and engineering analysis is a strong plus.
• Experience in new product development and machine design projects.
• Solid understanding of mechanical systems, mechanisms, and assemblies.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work on a variety of projects.
• Ability to collaborate effectively within a team-focused engineering environment.

Work Environment

This role is based in an in-office setting that emphasizes close team collaboration and hands-on engagement with projects. The engineer will work closely with other team members, using SolidWorks and related engineering tools in a collaborative environment that supports a variety of mechanical design and development projects.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Minneapolis, MN.

Pay And Benefits

• The pay range for this position is $140000.00 - $175000.00/yr.
• Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
