RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monthly close and reporting: Own the month-end close for an assigned portfolio and deliver accurate, on-time owner, investor and lender reporting packages, including clear variance commentary.
  • Review: Review operational financial data/reporting, bank and balance sheet reconciliations and financial packages. Give clear, constructive feedback and help train and develop staff.
  • Reconciliations: Prepare and review bank and balance sheet reconciliations. Tie subledgers (AR and AP agings, security deposits, prepaid rent, escrows and reserves) to the general ledger and resolve reconciling items promptly.
  • Cash management and treasury: Monitor daily cash positions; decision check and ACH positive pay; prepare and support wire and ACH requests; and manage lender escrow and reserve activity, lockbox/DACA accounts, distributions and capital calls.
  • Leases and agreements: Read and apply leases, management agreements, partnership agreements and loan documents to review rent, recoveries, management fees and debt activity. Partner with Lease Administration on CAM, tax and insurance reconciliations.
  • Accruals and schedules: Maintain accrual, prepaid (insurance, real estate tax), escrow, debt, and depreciation and amortization schedules, ensuring proper cutoff and treatment.
  • Accounts payable oversight: Review invoice coding and approvals in Avid and review check runs for accuracy, payment method and proper timing.
  • Budgets, audits and compliance: Support annual budgets and reforecasts, lead audit and tax preparer requests for assigned entities, and respond to lender and compliance reporting requirements.
  • Process improvement: Identify and implement ways to work faster and more accurately, including Excel tools, automation and AI-assisted workflows. Help build and maintain standard procedures and close checklists.
  • Special projects: Support acquisitions, dispositions, new property onboarding and system or bank transitions as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • BS/BA in Accounting or Finance
  • 5+ years of accounting experience, including at least 3 years in commercial real estate property accounting
  • Experience reviewing the work of others, including reconciliations, journal entries and financial reporting
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP and accrual accounting
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel: pivot tables, XLOOKUP or INDEX/MATCH, SUMIFS, and maintaining clean, reusable reconciliation and schedule templates
  • Hands-on experience with bank reconciliations, cash management, positive pay

Preferred

  • Experience with MRI (Yardi or a similar property accounting system considered) and Avid or a similar AP workflow tool
  • Experience using AI tools (e.g., Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude) to improve speed and accuracy, and an eagerness to keep learning

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE:

  • Acclimates quickly and takes ownership of a portfolio within the first 60–90 days
  • Thinks critically, investigates variances and fixes root causes, not just symptoms
