About this role
Employer-provided description, formatted for easier reading.
THE TEAM YOU WILL BE JOINING
- A growing enterprise technology organization undergoing a significant modernization of its infrastructure, cloud environment, applications, and operating practices
- A highly visible infrastructure and cloud team responsible for supporting a rapidly growing business while transforming a historically legacy environment
- A collaborative group working across cloud engineering, infrastructure, database administration, project delivery, application teams, and external technology partners
- An organization investing heavily in Azure, infrastructure as code, automation, cloud-native operating practices, and broader modernization initiatives
- This is a senior individual contributor role with significant influence over technical direction and how the organization builds and operates its future cloud environment
LOCATION
- Fort Mill, SC, Charlotte metro area
- On-site environment
- Opportunity to work closely with technology leadership and the broader infrastructure organization during a major period of transformation
What They Offer You
- A senior-level architecture seat with the ability to directly influence the future state of the organization's cloud and infrastructure environment
- The opportunity to establish architecture standards rather than simply maintain an already mature cloud platform
- Significant exposure to enterprise-wide technology transformation, including cloud migration, infrastructure automation, application modernization, AI initiatives, and evolving operating models
- An Azure-first environment with opportunities to evaluate where AWS, Google Cloud, or other platforms may make sense for specific workloads
- The ability to work across architecture and execution, helping teams translate strategic technical direction into practical, deliverable solutions
- Competitive compensation and a comprehensive benefits package
WHY THIS ROLE IS IMPORTANT
- The organization is actively transforming a legacy infrastructure environment and needs a senior architect capable of establishing the technical direction for what comes next
- Azure is the primary cloud platform, but the organization wants to make thoughtful architecture decisions rather than automatically forcing every workload into a single solution
- This person will help define cloud architecture, infrastructure-as-code practices, automation standards, and the technical patterns used across future infrastructure initiatives
- More importantly, the organization needs an architect who can turn strategy into execution
- The successful person will be able to take senior-level direction, break it into actionable technical work, and help engineering and delivery teams understand how to get from the current state to the desired future state
- This is not an architecture role centered around identifying why something cannot be done. The organization is looking for someone who can evaluate constraints, establish guardrails, and help teams find the practical path forward
- You will partner closely with infrastructure leadership, project management, database engineering, application teams, and external partners to ensure architecture translates into successful delivery
- The role will have significant influence over an organization that is actively moving toward more scalable, automated, and modern infrastructure practices
THE BACKGROUND THAT FITS
- Senior-level cloud architecture or infrastructure engineering experience with the ability to operate at an Engineer V or equivalent level
- Deep Azure experience supporting complex enterprise infrastructure environments
- Strong understanding of cloud architecture, infrastructure as code, automation, and modern infrastructure operating practices
- Demonstrated ability to translate high-level architecture and technical direction into specific, executable engineering work
- Experience establishing technical standards, patterns, guardrails, and architectural direction for infrastructure teams
- Strong ability to work collaboratively with engineers, project managers, application teams, leadership, and external technology partners
- A solutions-oriented mindset with the ability to identify constraints while still helping stakeholders determine how an objective can be accomplished
- Experience supporting cloud migrations, infrastructure modernization, or large-scale enterprise transformation initiatives
- Exposure to AWS and/or Google Cloud is highly valuable, particularly for evaluating workloads and determining the appropriate platform based on technical and business requirements
- Comfortable remaining technically close enough to the work to guide implementation, challenge assumptions, and ensure architectural decisions are practical
- Strong communication skills with the ability to move comfortably between senior technology leadership and hands-on engineering teams
