Position Summary

3GIMBALS is seeking a Full-Stack Software Engineer with a strong front-end focus to help design, build, and deliver capabilities for OMEN™, our multi-domain data fusion and analytics platform. This role is ideal for an engineer with strong front-end development experience who is also comfortable working across the full application stack.

The Full-Stack Software Engineer will build responsive, intuitive user experiences using TypeScript and React, develop and integrate backend services and APIs using Python and FastAPI, and take features from initial design through deployment and operation in AWS.

The position works closely with developers, analysts, and subject matter experts to translate complex mission and user requirements into practical software capabilities.

As part of a small, multidisciplinary team, this role provides meaningful ownership of the features developed and the opportunity to influence both the user experience and technical direction of the platform.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain responsive, user-facing applications using TypeScript and React.
  • Translate complex workflows, data, and analytic capabilities into intuitive and effective user experiences.
  • Design, build, and maintain RESTful APIs and backend services using Python and FastAPI.
  • Integrate front-end applications with backend APIs, data services, and other OMEN platform capabilities.
  • Own software features throughout the development lifecycle, from requirements and technical design through implementation, testing, deployment, and sustainment.
  • Design and manage database schema changes and migrations using Alembic.
  • Build and maintain GitLab CI/CD pipelines to automate testing and application deployment.
  • Deploy, monitor, troubleshoot, and scale applications in AWS environments.
  • Write clean, maintainable, well-tested, and documented code.
  • Participate in code reviews, architecture and design discussions, and technical planning.
  • Collaborate with developers, analysts, subject matter experts, and other stakeholders to understand user needs and deliver effective solutions.
  • Contribute to engineering standards, development practices, and continuous improvement across the OMEN team.

Required Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of professional software engineering experience developing production applications.
  • Strong proficiency in Python.
  • Professional experience developing modern front-end applications using TypeScript and React.
  • Hands-on experience developing APIs and backend services using FastAPI.
  • Experience managing database schema migrations using Alembic.
  • Experience using GitLab for source control and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience deploying and operating applications in AWS.
  • Solid understanding of software design principles, testing, debugging, and application performance.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver features across both the front end and backend of an application.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active U.S. Government security clearance.
  • Experience developing applications that present complex, highly connected, geospatial, temporal, or analytical data to end users.
  • Experience with graph databases such as Neo4j or Amazon Neptune and graph query languages such as Cypher or Gremlin.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code using Pulumi.
  • Experience designing or implementing data visualizations, interactive analytic interfaces, or other complex front-end experiences.
  • Experience developing software for DoD, Intelligence Community, national security, or other mission-focused environments.
  • Familiarity with containerized applications and modern cloud-native development practices.

What Success Looks Like

Success in this role requires the ability to translate user and mission needs into effective capabilities within OMEN, with particular strength in front-end development and user experience. The Full-Stack Software Engineer will work comfortably across React/TypeScript interfaces and Python/FastAPI services while maintaining ownership of the quality, usability, and reliability of delivered capabilities.

The role requires an ability to make complex information and analytic capabilities intuitive and useful to OMEN users while contributing effectively throughout the application stack. Success also requires independent problem-solving, close collaboration with engineers and mission experts, strong communication, and the drive and natural curiosity to tackle complex technical and mission challenges.
