About this role

Employer-provided description, formatted for easier reading.

21shares is one of the world's largest issuers of regulated crypto investment products and a pioneer in bringing digital assets to regulated exchanges. Since 2018, we have made it simple and secure for institutional and retail investors to access digital assets - across regulated exchanges in Europe and the United States.

We operate a growing suite of crypto ETPs and ETFs - spanning physically backed single-asset products, diversified indices, actively managed strategies, and equity-linked instruments. As our product range expands and our US ETF business scales alongside our European platform, the infrastructure behind every product we issue has to scale with it.

That infrastructure is Onyx - our proprietary investment platform, built in-house and owned end-to-end. Onyx today handles the operations that keep our products running and is built for the scale of where 21shares is going.

We are looking for a Product Manager to own product requirements for Onyx - working directly with the SVP of Technology Products, embedded in the ETP and ETF business, accountable for translating what the business needs into what engineering delivers. You will define what gets built. Not configure what someone else decided.

What you’ll do

  • Embed with investment and operations teams to understand workflows firsthand - requirements come from direct observation, not stakeholder translation.
  • Champion the user in every product decision - understand how teams actually work, what slows them down, and what they need Onyx to do differently.
  • Own product requirements end-to-end: discovery, scoping, engineering handoff, UAT, and go-live.
  • Define platform capabilities, data standards, and integration points that allow new asset types, product structures, and markets to onboard without custom builds.
  • Partner with engineering to evaluate system constraints, surface dependencies, and shape solutions that reduce operational risk.
  • Identify when a market-specific requirement is actually a platform capability - flag it, escalate it, and ensure it gets built once rather than rebuilt for each market.
  • Use AI natively across the product development workflow - from discovery and requirements synthesis to spec generation, workflow mapping, and prototype iteration - without outsourcing judgment.

What we’re looking for

  • 3+ years in fund platform implementation, investment operations technology, or a product-adjacent role with direct exposure to pre-trade or post-trade financial product workflows.
  • Demonstrated ability to structure requirements: you have written user stories, process flows, or functional specs that engineering teams have built from - not just participated in requirements conversations.
  • Experience with enterprise platforms where data accuracy, auditability, and reliability are baseline expectations.
  • Strong domain foundation. Relevant backgrounds include:
  • Operations or product roles at an asset manager, fund servicer, custodian, or digital asset custody platform handling NAV, order management, AP workflows, or settlement.
  • Implementing or supporting multi-client fund platforms across multiple clients or markets - onboarding, configuration, and translating client workflows into platform requirements.
  • Technology, product, or operations roles inside a hedge fund, asset manager, or proprietary trading firm - owning or improving the systems and workflows that run the investment business.
  • Ability to translate what you observe in operations into system requirements - and engage in technical discussion about data models, integrations, and platform dependencies.
  • Comfort working across timezones with globally distributed business and engineering teams.
  • Comfort making decisions with incomplete information in a fast-moving environment.

Who You Are

  • You communicate with precision: written requirements, verbal tradeoffs, stakeholder updates - clear, direct, and structured.
  • You bring engineers into the problem early, not after you have decided the solution.
  • You challenge assumptions, accept being challenged, and prioritize the right outcome over being right.

Strong Differentiators

  • You have worked on systems such as multi-tenant order management, portfolio administration, post-trade processing, NAV calculation, reconciliation, or digital asset custody platforms - and moved from configuring them to understanding why they were designed that way and what should change.
  • Background in crypto, digital assets, or exchange-traded financial products.
  • Demonstrated AI fluency: you have changed how you work because of AI tools, not just used them occasionally.
  • Technical depth sufficient to read an API spec, challenge an engineering estimate, and hold your own in an architecture discussion.

This role is based in New York City and will be expected to work from our New York office Monday - Wednesday.
