APPLE INC has the following available in Cupertino, California and various unanticipated locations throughout the USA. Project management and technical leadership on prototyping initiatives: Coordinate and drive engineering project that combines electronics, firmware, software, mechanical, and systems engineering. Track goals against schedule, coordinate resources, responsible for results meeting targets.

Review job applications, interview candidates, recommend hire / no-hire. Supervise and direct tasks with successful candidate(s), including interns from time to time. Coordinate and lead demonstrations of prototypes and technology incubations.

Create messaging to evangelize new technologies and/or features to key stakeholders and leaders across multiple divisions. Own and deliver electrical PCB and/or subsystem designs for hardware on product roadmap. Create test plan and support documentation, support offshore factory build and test.

Design, develop, and characterize prototype hardware for proof-of-concept and demo (prototype) Investigate how various technologies interact with the human body, including but not limited to electromagnetic, optical, acoustical, and mechanical interactions. Architect and design multi-layer, high-density printed circuit boards, owning electrical, firmware, application development, and maintenance for prototype/demo projects.

Support internal customers of prototype systems. Design and 3D-print mechanical fixtures for circuit boards and prototype hardware. Lead multiple projects and manage cross-functional dependencies with partner teams.

15% domestic and international travel required. 40 hours/week. At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range.

This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $184,700 - $277,600/yr and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field and 1 year of experience in the job offered or a related occupation.

Experience and/or education must include

  • Project management for low-volume prototype system, entailing defining project goals, coordinating and running project meetings, and tracking progress against goals for complex engineering projects.
  • Leading demonstrations of new technology to senior executives, resulting in approval of company resources to pursue the new technology Designing and building a multi-modal input device simulator that aligns audio, visual, and haptic response modalities to achieve perceptually simultaneous input feedback Using Altium schematic, PCB design, and BOM tools to create high-density, multi-layer printed circuit boards for low-volume prototype systems.
  • Supervising and directing junior engineers/interns.
  • Designing, implementing, testing, and demonstrating a robotic arm actuator controlled by a joystick input device connected across a low-latency wireless network.
  • Designing and implementing firmware and software for embedded system (microcontroller + DSP based) having a Swift UI control interface, using Visual Studio and Xcode IDE tools and GitHub source control tools.
  • Directing and supervising lab technicians on modifying and extending printed circuit board hardware.
  • Managing procurement of components, circuit boards, and modules as required to build fully functional prototype systems.
  • Utilizing 3D CAD software and 3D printing tools to design and build mechanical fixtures for prototype hardware.
