About this role

Employer-provided description, formatted for easier reading.

Amazon Luna is looking for a Software Development Engineer II to join the SIPS (Streaming Infrastructure and Provisioning Services) team. SIPS owns the infrastructure and services responsible for provisioning, managing, and efficiently utilizing the compute fleet that powers Luna's cloud gaming platform.

Cloud gaming presents a unique infrastructure challenge. We need to have the right GPU capacity available in the right AWS regions at the right time, while balancing customer experience, availability, performance, and infrastructure cost. The systems owned by SIPS operate at large scale and sit directly in the critical path of launching and running game sessions for Luna customers.

As an SDE II on SIPS, you will design, build, and operate distributed services that manage the lifecycle of our compute infrastructure. You will work on problems such as automated fleet scaling, capacity provisioning, instance lifecycle management, workload placement, infrastructure utilization, and improving the reliability and efficiency of our platform.

You will work closely with engineers across Luna and AWS to solve problems that span application software, distributed systems, EC2 infrastructure, GPUs, networking, and capacity management. You will have opportunities to take ambiguous infrastructure problems, develop technical solutions, and drive them from design through production.

Key job responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and operate distributed services that power Luna's streaming infrastructure and provisioning platform.
  • Build and improve systems for automated capacity provisioning, fleet scaling, instance lifecycle management, and workload placement across AWS regions.
  • Develop solutions that improve GPU and compute utilization while maintaining high availability, performance, and customer experience.
  • Own features and services end-to-end, from technical design and implementation through deployment, monitoring, and production operations.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex production issues spanning distributed services, EC2 infrastructure, networking, and GPU environments.
  • Improve the scalability, reliability, observability, and operational efficiency of SIPS services and reduce manual operational work through automation.
  • Work closely with engineers across Luna and AWS to support new game launches, infrastructure capabilities, instance types, and regional expansion.
  • Participate in design and code reviews, contribute to technical decisions, and help improve engineering standards and development practices across the team.
  • Mentor engineers, share technical knowledge, and contribute to a strong engineering and operational culture.
  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • 1+ years of software development engineer or related occupational experience
  • 1+ years of Object Oriented Design experience
  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language
  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
  • 1+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using: C#, C++, Java, or Perl experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
