About this role
Employer-provided description, formatted for easier reading.
Amazon's supply chain catalog data covers product barcodes, package configuration, quantity, dimensions, expiration, and more, directly impacting operational efficiency across supply chain workflows. Today, catalog data defects create fulfillment challenges that drive hundreds of millions of dollars in operational costs and limit our ability to grow selection.
Are you passionate about building software systems that operate at massive scale on the largest catalog on earth?
We are seeking a Senior Software Development Engineer to lead the design, implementation, and delivery of systems that ingest high-fidelity physical product observations (images, OCR text, barcodes, dimensions, expiration) for millions of inventory units flowing daily through Fulfillment Centers, then leverage that data to improve catalog data quality.
This initiative impacts multiple programs visible to Amazon senior leadership, reduces operational costs for Sellers and Fulfillment Centers, and drives revenue growth through expanded selection.
Key job responsibilities Lead architecture of large-scale distributed systems that process hundreds of millions of transactions daily, owning design, implementation, and operation across the full software lifecycle. Partner with Applied Scientists to translate ML research into production inference infrastructure that extracts product information from images at scale.
Define a multi-year technical roadmap, sequence delivery to balance near-term customer impact with long-term platform investment, and drive architectural consistency across engineering and science workstreams by influencing teams you depend on but do not directly control. Establish measurable quality, reliability, scalability, and cost-efficiency standards so systems continue to perform as expected while scale grows.
Mentor engineers through hands-on code reviews, design reviews, and technical guidance. Influence product technical direction by articulating architectural trade-offs, tech debt, and their business impact to stakeholders and partners.
A day in the life You might start the morning reviewing operational dashboards for your team's ingestion pipelines, then jump into a design review where you help engineers evaluate trade-offs for a new image-processing service. After lunch you pair with an Applied Scientist to prototype an integration between a new ML model and your production inference stack.
Later, you draft a technical document outlining your recommended approach for an upcoming cross-team migration, preparing to align stakeholders across catalog and fulfillment systems. Your work balances hands-on coding with strategic guidance, keeping the team focused on delivering reliable, high-quality systems.
