About this role

Application deadline: Oct 17, 2026

We're building the Gen AI–powered platform that takes a Devices product idea from concept to production in days — not months.

The Devices Global Retail Tech organization is looking for a Principal Software Engineer to lead diverse, cross-organizational initiatives spanning Devices financial systems automation, product development acceleration, and multi-agent orchestration architectures.

As the most senior individual contributor, you will work on our hardest problems, help establish technical standards, NativeAI development practices, and drive the overall technical architecture for products that delight our customers.

The Devices Financial System Automation (DFSA) team owns the consolidated technical architecture that transforms how Devices & Services (D&S) businesses set up and operate their financial systems.

D&S launches a fast-growing portfolio — Alexa, Fire TV, Ring, Blink, eero, Kindle, Appstore, Amazon Smart Vehicles, and more — and every new business launch requires financial record-keeping (FRK) setup spanning the entire fintech domains from contract review, business requirements, tax classification, accounting entries, billing and payments.

DFSA partners with teams across the Amazon's D&S division to accelerate new product launches.

Architecting agentic primitives at scale is central to our strategy. We are building a Gen AI–powered automation platform that takes a product idea or partner deal from initial idea to a live, automated financial record-keeping capabilities in days to weeks — using large language models, retrieval-augmented generation, and multi-agent orchestration workflows.

These solutions draft contracts, requirements, engineering specifications, and code that previously took teams months to produce. As Principal Engineer, you will define and drive the multi-year, architecture for this platform: unifying fragmented workflows into scalable, flexible, and compliant FinTech solutions, and setting the technical direction for how Gen AI is applied safely and accurately across financial systems.

This is a strategic investment adopted not just by the Devices & Services organization, but also teams across Digital, Ads and Consumer groups. You will shape the strategy that accelerates timelines from months to days, enabling every D&S business to launch and monetize faster.

Another core dependency for accelerating Devices product development lifecycle from months to days requires providing agentic and builder access to Amazon's diverse portfolio of Devices throughout the build process. We provide 16 businesses across Devices, Ads, and Digital teams elastic device capacity and operate as the singular entry point for every device type and setup at Amazon.

Amazon Device Farm services provide the device signal that fuels the fast feedback loops autonomous agentic systems and builders need for product development - providing agents and builders unified, elastic device capacity, configured on demand, with the functionality, reliability, and scale teams require to ship products to customers faster and to higher quality.

As a core leader in the Devices Global Retail Tech org, you'll work to simplify and accelerate Devices and Services product launches across every Product Line (FireTV, Kindle, Alexa, echo, eero, Leo, and more) as well as key partners in Digital, Ads and Consumer teams by driving the architecture and agentic solutions that remove existing constraints spanning diverse problem domains.

Key job responsibilities

As a Principal Software Engineer, you will:

  • Serve as a technical leader on our most demanding, cross-functional projects, owning the consolidated, Gen AI–powered system architecture that solves key fintech problems across all of D&S and Set the technical vision and direction for the org's fintech space
  • Functionally decompose complex problems into simple, straightforward solutions — designing for reuse across 12+ product lines and multiple geographies rather than one-off integrations.
  • Possess and apply expert knowledge in performance, scalability, enterprise system architecture, and engineering best practices, with financial accuracy, auditability, and tax/regulatory compliance treated as first-class architectural concerns — ensuring Gen AI outputs are grounded, verifiable, and compliant.
  • Understand the evolving needs of the D&S business and partner deeply with stakeholders across Business Development, Finance, Product, Tech, Accounting, and Tax to translate those needs into durable technical strategy.
  • Exert technical influence over multiple teams, increasing their productivity and effectiveness by sharing your deep knowledge and experience. You are a technical thought leader, builder, and operator.
  • Balance technical leadership and savvy with strong business judgment to make the right decisions about technology choices, sequencing a pragmatic roadmap that delivers incremental value while converging on the target-state consolidated system.
  • Assist in the career development of others, actively mentoring individuals and the community on advanced technical issues — including Gen AI engineering best practices — and helping managers guide the career growth of their team members.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 12+ years of software development experience, including designing and delivering large-scale distributed systems.
  • Experience serving as a technical leader across product and tech teams, driving architecture and technical strategy.
  • Expert knowledge of performance, scalability, and enterprise system architecture.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior technical and business stakeholders and align diverse teams behind a common direction.
  • Experience architecting and delivering systems to production — including agentic AI systems in product at scale.
  • Experience with multi-agent orchestration frameworks and AWS services including Bedrock and Amazon Q
  • Experience in FinTech, metering, billing, and payments financial enterprise systems with strong compliance, accuracy, and auditability requirements (tax, accounting, revenue recognition, e-invoicing).
  • Experience integrating complex, heterogeneous system landscapes and defining the contracts between them.
  • Experience operating in ambiguous, fast-evolving, multi-stakeholder business environments.
  • A track record of mentoring engineers and raising the engineering bar across an organization.
